The odd thing is, the switch appears to be made at '22 in the first. It didn't coincide with any subs, and to be honest, based on the highlights, I felt the US carried the play in the first 15 minutes. *head scratch*
Perhaps Ohai was not limited to either side. Some systems give one midfielder the option to move freely from side to side.
Perhaps, but when the switch is made the position looked permanent, she was always on the right after it. It looked to be a 433 and Ohai was a front line winger, not sure about flexibility in that situation.
From an Eyewittness- knows the players. I suppose it is possible he missed something. Replays will show .
This just in from Spain: The U.S. Under-23 WNT wins the Six Nations Tournament with a 2-1 win over Norway. Goals from Shim and Stengel.— U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (@USWNT) March 5, 2014
How does the tournament work? E.g. Germany U-20 didn't even play the US and there were no placement matches.
Every team has 3 three matches and that's it. Final "Tabell" They forgot Japan-England 4-0. But nothing really changes.
I think its done like one big group stage, and the winner is based on points, goal differential, and opponents played to break ties.
After watching the highlights someone who stood out to me that I was unfamiliar with was Danielle Colaprico. Seemed like a really good flank player, who possibly got more minutes than Tymrak. Just an observation.
She got more starts, but they ended up with almost the same number of minutes, as she never played a full 90 minutes and Tymrak did in the game against Sweeden. The interesting thing (in my view) was that Shim started all 3 games and ended up with about 30 more minutes than Tymrak and Colaprico. (Only two players played more minutes than Shim: Abby Dahlkemper and Katie Stengel - Dahlkemper having played the full 90 in all 3 games)
Only a few highlights to go off, but Ohai on the right. All the action flowing down the left. Subbed at half.
Shim is a highly underrated player; I'm not surprised she's getting minutes with the U-23s. After the impressive NWSL season she had, it was somewhat shocking nobody drafted her in the first place. Her control of the ball in tight spaces is among the best in the league, IMO. The impediment for players like Shim, as far as breaking into the national team, has always been lack of speed and size. She plays intelligent passes and hustles her ass off, but doesn't have that pure pace/athleticism USWNT coaches are suckers for.
The other impediment is she didn't play for Swanson. A couple players on the u23 squad have no business there.
