Are MLS youth teams going to leave the USL Super Y League and ONLY play in the US Soccer Premier Development League? It seems like thats the trend, not only with MLS clubs, but with ODP teams that were formerly in the Super Y.
Yes. Super Y has been Super Ceded. Although I don't know what you are talking about with "ODP teams," as there are no ODP teams with USSF Academy program.
Sorry, I don't know Youth Soccer lingo. Teams like Scott Gallagher, Bethesa SC, FC Magic, etc. I thought they were referred to as ODP teams. Whatever you call them, I noticed a lot of those clubs used to be in the Super Y League. Are they all going to jump ship and join the USPDA? And what about Toronto FC's youth academy? They are a part of MLS but not the USSF. Where would they end up playing? Thanks!
They might have some teams stay in Super Y, but by definition their top older players -- the ones on the U18 and U16 Academy teams -- cannot participate in Super Y. If you are on Academy roster, you can't do that other stuff. Good question. I'm thinking that if all the other MLS teams have USSF Academy squads, then probably Toronto FC would be invited/permitted to join the party. But we shall see.
I could see Toronto FC setting up a development team just across the border in upstate NY and therefore being eligible for USSF.
And trucking all the Canadian kids that make up the TFC academy into New York State every other day for their academy training? That doesn't sound right to me... Cheers!
