    Nice..........

I read an article about "FC New York" which will be launching in the USL1 for 2010.

They are going over a number of sites throughout Queens to build a 9,000 seat stadium. I'm into that.

Montero should be there ahead of Ljungberg, for Seattle.

There are still a few at large choices to be made and I've got to believe 99% of MLS fans are praying silently that Beckham isn't included. It would make the league look very plastic........not to mention taking a reward away from some very deserving FULL TIME players.

I think initially he wanted to have his cake (grow the game in the US and be a cult hero like he used to be in England) and eat it too (still play for England). Now I think he's an insensitive douchebag that really wants out so he can play for England but is trying to play the American soccer fans for fools.

I think if he really wanted to help American soccer, he should've joined MLS AFTER summer 2010 instead of toying with LA Galaxy fans and being a temporary player for them.

Clearly he cares more about playing for England than he does about MLS. I say ship him off to Milan on a one-year loan.

That said, some of the Riot Squad anti-Beckham banners were just silly and melodramatic. That's my problem with a lot of MLS "ultras"...they care more about their appearance and the attention they receive than cheering on the team itself.

    Re: MLS/USL catch-all thread [R]

I don't necessarily agree. That's the same treatment Louis Saha got from the Fulham support when he told the club to sell him to MUFC or he'd see out his contract and leave for nothing, and it's the same treatment our fans have given Mike Ashley and Co. (C'mon, you think the "Cockney Mafia" moniker is clever?!) If the fans think someone's jerking their club around (which Beckham clearly was and maybe still is) then they have a right to stand up to it to an extent, in my opinion.

Bottom line is Beckham is a more high-profile version of Michael Owen: An overpaid merc who cares more about playing for his country than he ever will about his club. LA would be best to rid themselves of him and ship him off to Mackemville or somewhere, but MLS is too afraid that the casual fans will run away if Beckham leaves rather than letting the onfield product (and the fan support of places like Seattle and Toronto) speak for itself.

    Re: MLS/USL catch-all thread [R]

I just find it ironic that last year before his loan to AC Milan (as a full time member of the LA Galaxy) that Becks was making a major impact for the England National Team.

Surely I'm not expert, but it appears that he can still be an impact player for England no matter where he is playing, but that goes against the European snobbery that we've all come to live with. Surely, a player in American can't play for OUR National Team! (Don't let the results get in the way of your perseption).

LA Galaxy needs Becks to sell shirts, not to win games. Landon Donovan is the best player on the team and is easily (especially on his current tear) the best player in the league. Bruce has made them a stable group with some older yet experienced signings (Berhalter, Lewis, Etc.) and a group of youngish but successful MLS lifers (Edson Buddle, Alecko Eskandarian, Alan Gordon).

As far as the fans reaction to his return, good for them. How would you take a NUFC player going on an off-season loan to stay fit and refuse to come back, making a public mockery of his contract with NUFC? Bottom line, LA Galaxy is just as important to their fanbase as NUFC is to their fanbase. They have every reason to treat him like an outsider.

Don't get me wrong, I think they have every right to boo the sh!t out of him.

But signs that say "23: Repent"? "Is evil something you are so something you do?" Give me a break.

Beckham is a tool. He actually has the audacity to tell a fellow Englishman who was wearing an England kit that "[he] shouldn't be wearing that shirt." I hate this guy more and more every time I see him. I can't believe that after all these years as a pro he still lets people yelling in the stands get to him. He should just ignore it and shutup. The more he does crap like this the more they're going to continue. He's just encouraging it.

But, but, maybe he's not really English!

On an aside, read Dan Loney's blog about the All-Star game. Priceless.

DC is really starting to promote their Open Cup final match against Seattle. A sticker went out with the local paper with this url on the back: http://wewintrophies.com

Then they took out a full page ad with a reprint of that letter several days this week.

Not sure if you guys have been following it but there had been some banter back and forth between the two team's FOs. Sure it's marketing, but the teams are building a dislike for each other.

And then of course, NY tried to counter with their own ad campaign.

    Reactions to the US-Mexico game?

I thought we played well until we started to bunker too much and only challenge them 25-30 yards from our goal. I know it is a common tactic to play like that in an away game, but we all knew their passing and fitness were going to beat our bunker defense. Our counter attacks never had enough support and they were doing great at getting 3-5 guys back every time to swarm the ball. In the end, I thought it was a decent result, better than I expected, doesn't hurt us in the long run.

Too bad the officials were pieces of shit that couldn't control the game. I guess they were more worried about getting out alive.

    That about sums it up.

Ah, well, at the end of the day we still have more points, and their country is still a shithole. :D

BayernWake, did you make it down to the match tonight? Attendance was horrible. Interesting to see how the Crew does in the CONCACAF Champions league. They beat the USL1 Side Puerto Rico Islanders 2-0. I think this is the first USL side that I've seen in person and I can't say I was impressed. Up next for the Crew is Cruz Azul from the Mexican FF in Mexico, should be a rough one.

Any other MLS side folks even watching the CCL?

On an ironic note, the ref for tonights match was Moreno, the same guy who did the USA v Mexico match in Mexico. He handed out 3 yellows in the first half to PR and was very demanding. Kinda Jeckle and Hyde from the Nats.
