I'm guessing he's referring to what Tom (IASocFan) wrote. IASocFan is saying it's only a 12.5% chance, and that Grant Wahl is wrong.
Actually, Wahl is right Tom is wrong, because if we're grouped with CAF, we have a 1 in 3 chance of being grouped with South Africa because another African team can't be grouped with South Africa. Meaning if Uruguay wins, it'll be us, Mexico, or Honduras in South Africa's group.
Thats what I thought... had no idea what the other dude was talking about or who the hell Tom is. But Grant is def right.
No, it's in the round of 16 that they always find a way to get knocked out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_FIFA_World_Cup#Round_of_16 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_FIFA_World_Cup#Round_of_16 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_FIFA_World_Cup#Round_of_16 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_FIFA_World_Cup#Round_of_16 Seriously in the last 4 World Cups they've qualified for they've always gone out in the round of 16.
Tom is IASocFan. The 12.5% is a 1 in 8 chance, he was saying we had a 1 in 8 chance of being matched up with SA. He just forgot that SA can't be grouped with other African teams.
Jimmy Conrad is the only field player not to be used by Bob Bradley against Slovakia, as of the 84th minute.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/so..._for_denmark_friendl.html?wprss=soccerinsider Dempsey, Marshall, and Cherundolo dropped from the roster, Torres, Castillo, Holden, and Clark called in for the Denmark game.
New US jerseys for the WC have been leaked. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqPYKmbFGws"]YouTube- US Soccer Jersey Video[/ame]
if that is in fact what our new home jersey will look like, it's just another disappointment. i don't understand why we have to be so devoid of color on our home jersey... and what's this crap with gray? the current jerseys look like crap with the gray stripes and now they like the gray so much they're putting a gray sash on the new one? i don't mind the sash, but let's do a red jersey for our primary and a blue one for our secondary. both with a white sash. simple. done. classic.
What I'm saying is that if Uruguay beats Costa Rica, it doesn't necessarily mean that we will be put in the same pot as the CAF teams. It's an assumption that Wahl is making, which may or may not be true. He may have better information than anything we've seen published by FIFA. If we aren't in the same pot as the CAF teams, we only may have a 12.5% chance of being in South Africa's group. I agree that if we're in the same pot as the 5 qualifying African teams, we have a 33% chance. It's not the math I'm questioning, it's the pot grouping assumptions.
Hate sashes, love that they grey minimizes it. Could have been worse. Love the current jersey. But qualifying is over and the world cup jersey will stick around for two years. This jersey will be loved or hated on the performance of the team. If we make it into the quarters it wil be my new favorite.
Lineup is out, Guzan, Hejduk, Spector, Bocanegra, Bornstein, Holden, Bradley, Clark, Feilhaber, Altidore, Cunningham. Jimmy and Eddie on the bench.
does any country in the world depend as much on one player as we do with donovan? we go as donovan goes. period. we never looked like scoring w/out their keeper giving us the ball. and hejduk... oh my.
http://www.concacaf.com/page/ConfederationDetail/0,,12813~1884059,00.html The US has the full support of CONCACAF for the 18 and 22 World Cup bids. Based on the announced pots for South Africa, I computed the following: Odds on US Group Make up: - 12.5% South Africa, South America, Europe - 25 % Arg/Bra, Africa, Europe - 23.5% 2 Europe, South America - 39 % 2 Europe, Africa I like the first option!
You know, there's the potential for some pretty rough groups. E.G. Brazil, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Portugal. I guess our ideal is SA, US, Paraguay, Slovakia or so?
