The US Men are to train in Cary ahead of the Gold Cup?? Would someone please confirm/deny this rumor?
They will start training here on Thursday, May 26. It looks like they will be here through the weekend. The Railhawks front office is trying to set something up with the U.S. officials for season ticket holders; similar to what they did this past March. Here's the roster. One sentence mentions that they will be here in this article: http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/6580155/freddy-adu-gets-us-call-spain-exhibition-gold-cup http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/05/24/1220482/us-men-returning-to-cary.html It seems like we are now the official training ground for U.S. national team. Did Curt Johnson sign a contract with U.S. soccer?
If he did, I'd expect an announcement about it. I think at the moment it has more to do with WakeMed being one of the best training facilities in America, and they picked it to train at a couple times. But I wouldn't be surprised if that's exactly the first step toward something more concrete, which would be amazing.
If only that were true! Being hosts for the USMNT twice in a row is more a coincidence rather than a mandate from USSF. It's also convenient for their east coast games not to fly cross-country each time. We have nice facilities, impeccable fields and a less hectic media market than say L.A. Besides, I thought the Home Depot Center was the official training ground of the Nats?
I just talked to the guys at the box office and they said all the practices are closed to the public right now. They are trying to work something out with U.S. Soccer to open one up. If they do, all season ticket holders will be the first to know.
