A blog on Notre Dame website by Randy Waldrum about the USWNT U-23's at La Manga, Spain. http://www.und.com/blog/2012/02/checking-in-with-randy-waldrum.html
U23's win 2-0 over Sweden today. Sorry no other details. Randy has been good about updating his blog so maybe check there later for details.
Amber Brooks gave USA U-23s the lead with a header in the 23rd minute and Zakiya Bywaters doubled the US lead in the 58th minute.
From Coach Randy's twitter: U-23 starting lineup: Henninger,Reed,Barnes,Anasi, Pressley,Levin,Marlborough,Ochs,Bywaters,Taylor, & Brooks vs. Sweden! USA 2 Sweden 0
It's interesting that 7 of the 11 starters played or are playing their college soccer on the West Coast -- Henninger (Santa Clara), Reed (Portland), Barnes (UCLA), Levin (Stanford), Marlborough (Santa Clara now, via Nebraska), Ochs (San Diego) and Taylor (Stanford). All from the Pac 12 and West Coast conferences. In a lineup set by a Big East coach. Good for him!
From everything I've heard from parents of players, and other people, Randy Waldrum first of all is a huge student of the game. He watches other teams, coaches, pros and studies tactics and is open minded. I'm sure this is a thrill of a lifetime for him to coach National Team players. He is a nice guy to players and players like him from what I've heard. Depending on his success at this level, maybe somewhere down the road, he may be a candidate to take over the senior team.
Would that be a good thing for Notre Dame? I'm pretty sure Pia is leaving this summer, so new coach is being looked at now (guess). Typically these are 4 year terms at least through next WWC and 2016. So I wonder how that would work.
