NASL/USSF meet for 2012 http://www.insidemnsoccer.com/2011/...n=Feed: InsideMinnesotaSoccer (IMSoccer News)
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Seems like things are looking good and the league should be sanctioned by November for next year. I'm hoping a team or 2 may jump from the USL to NASL, but even with San Antonio joining next year and keeping the league at 8 teams and Ottawa joining in 2013 I'm happy.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Would love to have the league sanctioned and snag a couple of USL teams to round out the teams at ten. But definitely won't complain about smooth sanctioning and off season for the league and the clubs. Everyone seems to be well underway with preparations for 2012, selling season tickets, etc., and compared to the last two seasons this is great news. Now just cross your fingers there are no hiccups.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Here's hoping for a nice, drama-free offseason for once. And also would love to see NASL poach Orlando and maybe Rochester from USL
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Just getting one team could be the key. Then you force the other teams to have to at least consider it.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 I don't know if teams like Rochester or Orlando are allowed to leave USL pro for the NASL.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 If the last few years have taught us anything, it's that anything can happen. Tampa Bay was under a contract to play in USL, remember? They never played one game in the league. Rochester was on the USL side, then jumped to NASL, then back. There may be some tricky legal maneuvering involved, but I think any team could switch if they wanted to.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Their breaking contract with the USL is the whole reason we had USSF running Division 2 in 2010: it was the only way they could kill the resulting lawsuit and keep FIFA away. The truth is, as far as USSF was concerned, FCTB was contractually obligated to USL for 2010. Also, the Silverbacks couldn't be conjured back out of thin air in time for 2010. As a result, neither league had enough D-2 teams to be sanctioned. So USSF took over to shut the lawsuits up.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 I haven't seen all the contract details, but I am sure that neither league wants to lose teams to the other league and for that they will do the possible and even the impossible
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Any moves would probably mean a legal challenge, the only way I can see a team changing is for them to fold for a year and then join the other league the following year, which would probably avoid any contracts they have with the leagues.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 And got sued by USL for making the jump after renewing their contract for 2010, then very probably could have gotten sued by NASL for returning (at least, there was some noise about their contract with NASL which implied it said similar things) if NASL was feeling in a litigious mood. If I'm understanding the litigation before 2010, which I'm probably not, then that's true up until a certain point (and I don't know when that's coming or even if we're past it yet), after which they'll have renewed their contracts with each league and signed away their right to play in any other league (unless like for Puerto Rico and the PRSL they have negotiated something else).
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 Maybe. The first several teams to jump ship from USL in 2009 didn't encounter any legal challenges, presumably because they hadn't yet renewed their franchise agreements for 2010.
Re: NASL/USSF meet for 2012 And season renewals typically are done at league-wide meetings in November. So at this point (unless someone has signed a multi-year agreement) anything is possible. However, I don't think anything is likely. Orlando certainly seems, after one season, to have the attendance to afford playing in the NASL, and have a team that is likely (depending on how many of their loaned players return) good enough quality. However, Phil has a very tight relationship with the USL, and that's likely going to keep Orlando in the USL. Rochester, as we've seen, can swing either way. However, their attendance numbers have slipped and have yet to find a bottom. I'm not sure they have the confidence there to move back up. I think we'll actually see something resembling stability in the NASL next season, with Montreal leaving and San Antonio joining the NASL. Any guesses regarding USLPRO I'll save for that forum.
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? The USSF will have to I guess, not sanctioning the league would be pretty negative for US professional soccer
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? It depends on your definition of sanctioned. It may be provisional again if the league asks for waivers on some of the standards as they did last year.
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? Which, actually, it will have to as for waivers, with the stadiums in Edmonton and San Antonio. Who knows whether those waivers will push them into provisional or not.
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? What's wrong with San Antonio's stadium? I know it's for HS Football but it holds like 10K and has press box and all that right? Or is it a field dimension issue?
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? That would be it. "All outdoor leagues: Playing surfaces for all teams must be at least 70 yards by 110 yards and be FIFA-approved."
Re: will nasl be sacioned d2 in 2012? This is my guess, there will be a season but again the US based teams will not be in the Open Cup.
