I'm not going to lie, having an American on our beloved Arsenal would give me a thrill, but shouldn't be done for the sake of it.
Wholeheartedly agree. It's plain as day. Dempsey has his qualities but he's not a good fit. Maybe for a team like United who can switch their approach considerably from game to game.
Im sorry but Dembele is not better than Dempsey. He's a striker who doesnt score goals. I think Dempsey could be a good squad player at the right price. If we could get him for 10-12m it would be a good buy. Fulham is a decent team, but the fact that he has been steady building on his goal tally in a mediocre team when you're a striker is impressive. But if we sign Podolski I would rather us pick up another midfielder to cover for Song. I think Vertonghen would be a great addition. He can cover a lot of positions in the back. We need utility players.
And also for Ben Arfa... no thanks. He's a bit of a headcase and his run vs Bolton's terrible defense did not impress me. He is a decent winger but he is not better than Theo or the Ox, maybe Gervinho (but i think he will be better next season). With Gervinho, Theo, Ox, Miyaichi, and possibly Podolski, we dont need any more wingers.
Dembele is getting love because he looks like a great ball carrying central midfielder, not because of how he plays up top. And Ben Arfa is one of the most talented attackers in the premiership.
I've watched quite a bit of Fulham this season and I agree that Dembele is a pretty tricky/creative player, but we have plenty of that already. We need goal scorers. I used to be real excited about Ben Arfa. I used to pay attention to him and Nasri a lot, hoping that Arsenal would sign them. But he was kinda underwhelming at Marseille. He did have to recover from a leg break when he joined Newcastle and has been pretty good this season. But I'm not sold on him yet. Man City will probably sign him anyway. Dont him and Diaby have problems?
Yea Diaby and Ben Arfa almost had a punch up in a hotel room during youth french team duty. But that was a long time ago. Haven't heard much about them beefin since.
I think he offered fine cover this season, but I'm guessing he wants more 1st team action and his wages are probably too high.
I've been watching Belhanda for a while. Plays like this are one reason some think Wenger will make a move for him this summer: http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/golazo-younes-belhanda-2-v-marseille/
Agree about United because Fergie uses typical domestic tactics. Their attacking not a continental style, they just utilize their player's abilities and technique. Catfish, even 1 more midfielder even with Jackie coming back? In know Tommy is 32 next year but he'd still be good for the last 30', no? In terms of defending, I'd like to see Vertonghen come, but where would that put him versus Kos?
Simple, and I'm only half-joking, but we could run a 3-man backline with Kos, Verm, and Vert. They're all pretty athletic, and it would give us the luxury of throwing another player into the midfield.
it would add another player into the midfield if you remove both fullbacks. pushing gibbs/sagna forward to wingback and running a 3-man backline would actually remove either an attacker or a midfielder. that said, i am not remotely against it. the way that vermaelen and, occasionally, koscielny move forward, it would be really interesting.
3 defs and wing backs? are u mad? that would be the end of gervinho and theo dembele is a really good ball retainer and decent passer, somewhat in the mold of diaby ben arfa is quick and tricky, he is similair to rosicky imo but quicker and better in that he runs at people and creates off his movement, like sessengon who is also a goal threat a front line of ...........rvp/podolski chamberlain....ben arfa.....theo/gervinho would be frightening imo
I'm a fan of this. ps. I always laugh and get a little bummed every time I hear Ben Arfa's name thrown into the mix as potential players. I remember when we signed Nasri, there was so much speculation about us signing Ben Arfa instead. Looks like we definitely made the wrong choice. To be fair Ben Arfa both seem like cunts. I may or may not be saying that because him and Diaby hate each other.
we didnt make a mistake signing Nasri. I like slander but I dont like rewriting history. For all of Nasri's issues, he never disrespected the manager and club, while an Arsenal player, like Ben Arfa did at Marseilles.
we fleeced citeh for nasri.. problem is, we never spent the money to replace him. 24M quid for a guy on his last year... stupid money for the return they got.
Agreed. That run was against Bolton players that served up as much defense as the Washington Generals against the Globetrotters.
Would you have bought a player who effectively went on strike at Marseilles? Professionalism is far more important than talent. Perhaps Ben Arfa has changed having reached bottom. But there is a reason why he went for £5m and even the Wenger didn't take a punt on him. If this season in comparison to last season has taught us anything, it's that commitment is more important than talent. Last season we couldn't win a game after Birmingham because half the team wanted to leave. This season with less talented players we have gone on two of the longest win streaks in years.
Ben Arfa had problems with his Father hence him lashing out at authority. He was on Canal + and apologized to all the coaches he'd had run ins with and took responsibility for his immaturity. Imvho AW would've coaxed greatness out of him as well. My money is on Belhanda ending up at Arsenal this summer.
