Most team that win the WC always have what people think the "not so great" players. Working as a unit is the most important thing plus mental strength and fighting spirit. Apart from Maradona and Ruggeri, Argentina didnt have world class player in 86 & 90. There are some great players like Caniggia, Valdano, Pumpido, Burruchaga but if you compare it to Brazil's Zico or Platini's France, the star studded German or the 90 Italian team that has Maldini, Zenga, Baggio, Barresi, Donadoni, Ancelotti, Ferrara etc... yet we're able beat them.
Your point is true although I would say Caniggia was world class, not too sure about Ruggieri. @Rattlehead
Ruggieri not world class? First of all, I think the idea of world class is so subjective, but Ruggeri won everything there is to win to in 1986 (Argentine league, Copa Libertadores, Copa Intercontinetal, Copa Interamericana, and of course the World Cup) He was playing at an absurdly high level that year. AS a person, I don't like Ruggeri, but you can't argue with his CV at club level or NT level. You also have to look at Sergio Batista, he was a very good defensive midfielder, and el Negro Enrique was a superb #8 who won everything there was to win.
Well yea I could agree with that but then again, Caniggia wasnt on the 86 winning team. God knows what could have happenned if we didnt have 4 main players suspended + 1 player injured for the 90 final. That practically left an injured Diego playing alone against full strength Germany who still need a late gift penalty to win that game. Sometimes mental toughness could overcome the impossible. Ruggeri isnt world class? The guy won league title with 4 different clubs (Boca, River, Real madrid & San Lorenzo). Also, it should be noted that he's the only Argentine that won World cup (2 finals), Copa America (twice) & Confederation cup.
So, it appears there will be a friendly between us and the Germans in DuSseldorf after the World Cup. There was talks about it, now it is official according to FIFA's calendar. September 3rd.
The friendly against Germany is also confirmed on German FA website. http://www.dfb.de/index.php?id=511166
And another Argentina-Brazil... this time in China: http://www.ole.com.ar/seleccion/Clasico-Beijing_0_1121888083.html In Beijing on October 11, which is a FIFA date unlike the previous home/away Superclasicos de las Americas. meaning both coaches will most likely call up their best.
So when our next friendly will takes place? Kun will be in Singapore in May 15-16 , invited by Samsung and Singtel , I'm not sure if its necessary for him to do this kind of stuff less than a month before the WC.
Hi there, hope this is the right thread... does anyone know where I can purchase tickets online for the Argentina v Trinidad & Tobago friendly? Or how the ticketing process works? Cheers
Argentina V. Slovenia, and Arg v Trinidad & Tobago soccer friendliesin June ?? May 04, 2014, 12:43 PM Still no official sale of tickets for this yet. This is Argentina, where everything is last-minute. The tickets have not even been printed. Sites like tangol, viagogo and others only selling on speculation. I have no doubt that these larger resell sites will come through, but you pay a premium. You take your chances buying on the independent sale sites or the smaller sites. Announcment of ticket sales ewill be announed on the official Argentine Football Association site, here: http://www.afa.org.ar/index.php?opt...bago-y-eslovenia&catid=164&Itemid=581&lang=es I expect that the official (and cheaper) sales will be here, and that there will be pickup ties and dates in BA:http://www.ticketek.com.ar/futbol From the AFA site today: "Argentina’s Team, coached by Alejandro Sabella, will play against Trinidad and Tobago on the 4th June in the ‘Estadio Unico de la Plata’ at 8:00 pm (time subject to confirmation). On the 7th June, the Squad will meet Slovenia in the ‘Antonio Vespucio Liberti’ Stadium, at 6:00 pm (time subject to confirmation)." Update confirmation that ticetek will be the offical )(and cheaper sellers: http://www.ticketek.com.ar/argentina-vs-trinidad-y-tobago/estadio-river-plate They put an announcement last week saying standby (still on standby as of this moment) for announcement for ticket sales for the Trinidad match on June 4, but no announcement on the sales for theSlovenia match yet. It is clear they are still the official ticket agents for the AFA, ticketek.com.ar/argentina-vs-trinidad-y-toba… However. the idiots at Ticketek have typically made a mistake on the announcement by saying it is in the Rvier Plate stadium in BA, when the Trinidad match is really at the La Plata stadium. They may not even realize there are 2 matches yet. Until they sell, there will be no tickets printed. Sheeesh, they never learn. Expect changes and confusion.. Patience, laddies, patience. If you are going to travel in Latin America, you need patience and ambiguity-tolerance, amigos!
Also, I think the venue has changed to River Plate according to the AFA website: La Selección Argentina, dirigida técnicamente por Alejandro Sabella, se medirá ante Trinidad y Tobago el 4 de junio en el Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti, a las 20 (horario tentativos sujeto a confirmación).
ickets now on sale for both friendlies, but it appears that the cities and stadiums have been switched. http://www.afa.org.ar/index.php?opt...ago-and-slovenia&catid=190&Itemid=594&lang=en " ARGENTINA-TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO MATCH –WEDNESDAY 4TH OF JUNE 2014–, ANTONIO VESPUCIO LIBERTI STADIUM (RIVER PLATE) FOR THE ARGENTINA-SLOVENIA MATCH –SATURDAY 7TH OF JUNE 2014–, ESTADIO UNICO CIUDAD DE LA PLATA" But who knows, this could be a mistake. However, La Plata is just a short half hour bus ride or train ride from Buenos Aires. Tickets for sale of Slovenia match online available here: http://www.ticketek.com.ar/argentina-vs-eslovenia/estadio-unico-ciudad-de-la-plata . Until Thursday, you can only buy the more expensive plateas (grand stand ) seats. The cheaper populares (end terraces, concrete benches) tickets go on sale Thursday. To buy online, you have to register and open an account. You can also buy at any ticketek outlet in Argentina. They may sell out over the next week. http://www.ticketek.com.ar/argentina-vs-eslovenia/estadio-unico-ciudad-de-la-plata For Trinidad, here (same conditions): http://www.ticketek.com.ar/argentina-vs-trinidad-y-tobago/estadio-river-plate Prices for the plateas shown by clicking on the icon on the upper left of each page. This is for the official, cheaper sales of tickets. You can always buy from some of the resale websites, and you may have to if you wait too long.
ahh, for the Tirnidad match inBA on the Wednesday.Still do not know for sure if I can make it over that week. Enjoy.
14 October 2014: Hong Kong vs Argentina. This match is held to celebrate HKFA's centenary. Argentina will come to Hong Kong straight after their match with Brazil in Beijing on 10 October.
Guillermo Tofoni, World Eleven FIFA agent who organizes our friendlies, stated that the following friendlies will take place: As @jonny63 stated before, in October we will play v. Brazil in Beijing, China v. Hong Kong in Hong Kong Tofoni also mentions that it is highly likely that we will play two friendlies in the US vs. Colombia and Honduras (subject to change), most likely in Miami and/or New York. http://www.diez.hn/laseleccion/737597-99/honduras-jugaría-amistoso-con-argentina-en-octubre (article in spanish)
These friendlies in the orient are really dumb. AFA still trying to get every single penny out of the rock band, Masche and Pussycats. Then, Hong Kong? As for their US tour.... Honduras, might likely be in NY and Arg/Colombia will be in Miami, since there is a heavy population of Argentines and Colombians in Miami. Plus, Colombia has a friendly lined up with Brasil in Miami next month.
