thanks for posting the comment. agreed on Rogers. I was impressed with Rogers from the moment I saw him in 1st pre-season match. He adds a peice they've been missing and allows to the variety Fishbein has at his disposal based on game and matchup situations

tough to state anything conclusive without having seen either of the California matches (Poly 0-0 Friday and Santa Clara 2-0 win yesterday)

Lobos are 2-0-1 and have yet to concede a goal in first three matches (+4 GD)

Lobos (2-0-1) have Columbia University Lions (Friday) and Cal State Northridge Matadors (Sunday) coming in this weekend for the annual TLC Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Lobo Invitational. Missouri State is the 4th team.

Columbia is 3-0-0 with wins over Fairfield (1-0) Sacred Heart and Saint Peter's (both 2-1 in OT)

Cal State Northridge is 1-1-0 with 2-0 win over Canisius and 2-1 OT loss to Akron

Missouri State is 0-3-0 with losses to Belmont and Tulsa (both 2-1) and Memphis (1-0)

Of course I'll be rooting for Columbia and CSUN to beat Missouri State for RPI purposes.

Here's to the Lobos coming out of the weekend 4-0-1 with a couple more clean sheets and a nice national ranking before the televised clash at Akron next Friday

Lobos survive a beautiful 1st half strike from CSUN and an inability to finish their dominance for the first 85 minutes then unload 3 goals in the 86th minute (Venter, Sandoval and Smith) to beat the Matadors 3-1.

I asked at halftime if this was the same old Lobos or if they are special as many of us think. This was a special performance on a nice Sunday afternoon.

Way to nut it out boys. On to Akron Friday

Saw only the last 10 minutes of overtime in the Lobos 1-1 draw at Akron plus the quick post match highlights. Stats looked pretty even (except in the red card department of course).

Not the result I'd hoped for but now 4-0-2 with 3 total goals conceded on the year. Need to take care of Syracuse early Sunday morning and root for Akron to run the table for RPI purposes.

I can't draw my own conclusions so feel free to fill in here with impressions of the the game and the Lobos performance in particular. Was it a good TV game?

Lobos bossed the match for the first 25-30 mins, then Akron started to take over...Truth be told the Lobos should have been up by 1 or 2, but they couldn't capitalize... Afterwards, Akron looked to be the better side, even when they were down a man they seemed to be a different class...

But, a 1-1 draw on the road to the defending national champions? Yes please! Go Lobos!

I think NM started well and played to a game plan- force Akron to play more direct through pressing high and then win-first and second balls where possible.
NM had a couple of chances but you cant press like that for 90 and Akron started to impose themselves through Balogun. He was the outstanding player on the field as he rarely if ever gave the ball away while also taking up extremely intelligent positions to dictate the tempo of the game even when the game was 11 v 10. Mattocks deserved the red card and i would have liked to seen NM be more attacking with the man advantage but at times they were wasteful in possession and things broke down sloppy passing in transition. That being said they kept working and got the goal and by the end 1-1 was probably a fair result and good on the road bearing in mind it being Akron after all....

Great result, especially on the road. And, a nice showing for recruits on TV.

    Congrats.

Little help, Gents - could you please tell me why Mike Green is playing DM? It seems a colossal waste of his skill-set.

Bc Michael Green is a pass first type of player. He gives that team some composure in the center of the field and will make the right decisions with the ball.

Mike is a sweet player but he has not proven to be an up front goal scorer in his first 3 years. Going with a 4-2-3-1 depends upon his skills in ball winning, possession and distribution. He's not being used as a park in front of the backline DM really.

He's at the core of making this team click going forward as well as stingy on defense. I think Fishbein has it just right

what good is airplane wifi if Akron can't be bothered to provide live stats for the Lobos - Syracuse game. What kind of tournament is that?

still no score Lobos and Syracuse in the 72nd minute (according to livestats). Was afraid of tire legs let down after Friday night against a weaker opponent. Need to nut it out and head home

now that i'm down on the ground and home the livestats page says 2-1 Lobos in OT but no stats or PBP. Must've been a wild finish. Looking forward to the write up
