I don't think we'll sign Steffan because at this rate with MacMath doing well and our drafting of Blake we don't exactly need another young goal keeper on the roster. Steffan wants to go to Europe which tells me he wouldn't want to sit on our depth chart the way Blake currently is doing. The only way a GK slot is even opened in the near future is if the team exposes MacMath in the expansion draft and he's taken by Orlando or NYCFC which, if he continues his solid play, may be unlikely.

Sounds like a friendly to me. I'm sure we wouldn't have sent guys on loan to HCI if that wasn't a thing anymore.
The Union plays FC Dallas, San Jose, and Chivas de Guadalajara at the Generation Adidas Cup this week: http://www.mlssoccer.com/generationadidascup/2013/schedule
After losing to FC Dallas in the opening game, the Union beat Chivas Guadalajara on Tuesday: The final group game is against San Jose on Thursday. The Earthquakes lost penalty shootouts to both Chivas and FC Dallas.
I kinda wish the union would go and start a union 2 team or call it whatever they want. The point of the academy is to groom players to fit into the system the union play at every level. When we can only place 3-4 players at HCI and then have NO control over how they are played it is completely flawed. Whats the purpose of the academy and the school if these kids then float in limbo? All the home growns NEED to be playing real minutes so we know what we have in them. This kid Derrick Amaniampong should NOT be going to college, he should be sent to play with the union 2 club once this tournament is over. They invested money into his development and it seems at the last step they are letting another coach and program develop the player. If MLS wants to be taken seriously they need to setup some sort of REAL U-21 program.
Problem is, the Union doesn't own the kid. He gets to make his own decisions, whether the Union "lets" him or not. If it was the Union's call, I'm sure they'd rather sign this kid to a minimum contract and assign him to Harrisburg for a few years. But if the kid himself--want him to go to college, the Union assigning him to Harrisburg stops being youth development and starts being kidnapping.
Ok fine, but that still doesn't mean the rest of my rant wasn't 100% valid. I think everyone would agree that having a REAL USL team where we can get our young kids playing time is going to be beneficial for the growth of the players which will impact the club team eventually. They are spending all this money to develop kids and if they aren't ready to step into first team minutes they rot on the bench, don't make the 18 or are one of 4 kids shipped to HCI in the hopes they can get game time.
The Union beat San Jose 3-2 in the final game of the Generation Adidas Cup. Pfeffer with the assist for the U-20 MNT in their 3-2 win against Fluminense. Not only is Pedro still being played as a defender, he came off today with a hamstring injury. Absolute shit day all around for the Union.
I can't wait until Hack is out of here. Maybe some of the Homegrowns could see at least time in the 18. No offense to Bone or Lahoud, but hey I hear the shrimp is good.
Nah dude, Homegrowns are loving it. What 18 year old would love be paid 50K+ to do nothing but eat shrimp and show up run some laps on saturdays....
One could argue that we're the West Brom of MLS. It's early days still but it would be nice to be able to point to a HG player that's been successful with the Union for recruitment purposes.
