Could atmosphere at PPL Park help Philly land Raul?

CHESTER, Pa. – Ever since Raúl announced he was leaving Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 and would look to continue his career outside of Europe, rumors have swirled about where the Spanish legend would land.
Could playing at PPL Park on Wednesday when the Union host FC Schalke in an international friendly (7:30 pm ET) help sway him to come to MLS? Union captain Danny Califf and other Philadelphia players believe it’s certainly possible.

It helped us land The Dragon for last season. Better question: would the FO open the vault to bring Raul to the club?

Well if it's an atmosphere they want we're gonna bring it, even with shitty possible weather and limited fan interest.

In the beginning of the season Nicky Sack made it clear that the organization aren't big on getting big DP's when other guys in the locker room aren't making a fraction of the DP's salary. If things get worse I could see them making a move for a Raul or another big name in hopes of not losing any part of the fan base.

Will there be commemorative Union-Schalke scarves?

Still kicking myself for waiting until halftime to grab an Everton one (read, all sold out).

Sucks I didn't have the money for this game. Going to be only the second home game I've ever missed.

Great. But that's usual for these types of friendlies.

I would assume it comes down to money. The interest would probably be limited if it was televised, so no network will want to pick it up. I don't think it would be too costly to have a live stream of the game, even if it's just a mediocre one or two camera shot. However, the Union probably just want you to come out as it will be more cost effective for them for people to be there. It's a similar situation to our U.S. Open Cup game down in Maryland last season. Unfortunately, while the MLS is still growing and the popularity of the sport is still expanding, these are things that the fans will have to deal with.

I figured everyone get em already. It's pathetic, I keep getting told a different date that they will be emailed to me.

Wrong. Check out the Schalke 04 Facebook page and in the comments under the photos you can find the link to the web stream.

I looked but only saw a link to atdhenet.tv which is simply an aggregator of current streams.

Then again, I'm not a German speaker so maybe I missed the link to which you refer. Perhaps you could enlighten us by posting the link to the web stream.

Has anyone seen any pictures of the team arriving to Philly? Is Raul really with the team? I can't wait to see the pictures and game reports.

The Union will be wearing their white kit tonight. I guess that's the problem with having two shades of blue.

I feel the front office has more to do with this:
    1. they charged season ticket holders to buy tickets rather than include it as a game in their season package. greed cost them.
    2. charged regular price for the tickets. this was the perfect opportunity to new people to check out the stadium and the team (now that they need it) could have easily done family packages, promotion with another game ie buy for this get one for another or have it be cheaper and entice people undecided
    3. lack of product being put out there so why pay extra for a friendly
    4. announced this at the same time as the all-star game. people prioritized based on demand. There was no need to announce/sell tickets to the all-star game when you announce this friendly. wait a week or two and then start selling the tickets for chelsea.

I'm sure there are other things I'm missing.
