Good call. One thing I would add is that the mass transit system up there is very decent. If you can find a hotel along the metro line, you don't have to worry about driving to and from the game. Hence, more booze. ;)

I heard it costs an arm and a leg, though (as in even more than it does in the Philadelphia area), so just be prepared to set aside even more money than you would in this area. One bus ride up there is apparently $3.

Sure, but those are Canadian dollars. It's like Monopoly money. :p

They sell 1- and 3-day passes that are valid for unlimited travel on the buses and subways, so depending on how long you're staying it might make sense to go that route. 1-day pass is $8 and the 3-day is running $16 right now.

This trip was marked on the calendar well before the date was announced. lol

would be kind of cool to have a caravan of union fans long enough to hold up traffic pulling into the hotel at the other end.

So my favorite bar in Downtown Montreal is McLean's on Peel St.

Any other suggestions for post-game? Otherwise I'll see you all there! :D

I was planning on making a lot of road trips. I went to Portland for the season opener and sat with the SOB. I went with some family who lives in the area. I was expecting to have a good time with my fellow SOB's, and man was I WRONG. The fellow SOB could not have made me feel any more unwelcome. I have noticed the "clicks and elitist mentality" at home SOB tailgates, but I really wasn't expecting it. I tried numerous times to interact and make talk about the game but I was totally blow off. There was a guy there who seemed to be "directing the group" (had to be the center of attention at all times) full beard and wearing a kilt who I tried to talk to and he looked right at me and rolled his eyes make some comment under his breath and his cronies laughed. So much for the "brotherhood". My Mom even asked me if they are like this at home.

I still had fun watching the game and being in that crazy atmosphere. Don't go there by yourself and expect to make any friends because none of them were even remotely interested in that. Bring a few buddies and you will have a better time than I did.

I'm sorry I put you off. Do you recall what was going on at the time you made your comment or what your comment was? Sorry I do not recall who you are. I talked to a lot of people that night.
Better yet, I stick out. Come talk to me face to face on sat and if i'm not busy trying trying to keep people in time in the stands or run the music for the tailgate I'll be happy to discuss this.
despite my drunken angry ramblings that night i can be amicable.

Man, that sucks, truly sorry you had a bad experience, but please give us another go and don't let it deter you from going on road trips.
Without a doubt, I've added at least 1 or 2 people to my circle of friends on every SoB road trip I've been on (and I've been on a lot of them!). Whether it was people I sorta knew & got to know better or total strangers. Honestly, I look forward more to the road games than games at PPL at this point just because of that.

I'll be at the Montreal game. My brother plays for the Rochester Rhinos and they have a game the day before. So I will go see them play and continue on up to Montreal the next day. If any other SOBs want to get in on some USL PRO action then I suggest stopping in Rochester on your way up to Montreal! There is an amazing BBQ place in Rochester called Dinosaur BBQ. I highly recommend going there before/after the game. Good food and good beer. DOOP!

My wife is from Rochester and I always try to catch a Rhino's game when we visit. It's always a good time, and I totally agree with Dinosaur BBQ its awesome. A lot of supporters groups meet up there before Rhinos games.

Dinosaur BBQ is fantastic but I'll always have a spot in my heart for the garbage plate! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garbage_plate#Garbage_Plate)

Anyone have an idea of when we'll be able to purchase tickets in the away section for this one? I've got the time off, and I want to make sure I don't get shut out on tickets.

A guy from upstate NY i used to bartend with turned me on to Dinosaur BBQ's bottled BBQ sauce. Probably the best from-a-bottle BBQ sauce I've ever had. Anyone in the area should definitely make the trip there.

So I was finally able to get the money together yesterday for this trip only to discover that nothing is available any longer because it was only available until July 20th. Since that's the case, and I have this money for the trip, but I can't sit with you guys. Anyone know where I can sit for this game? What section I should ask for tickets in? I'm kinda bummed that this ended with two weeks before the game, but I still want to go.

Have you tried to contact kelly.delaney[at]sonsofben.com? or tweeted @sobroadtrips? They might still be able to squeeze you in with the rest of us, it's at least worth a try...
