Does ANYONE understand how this league works now? Harrisburg beats Colo Rapids Reserve and gets 3 points in the USL standings. I get that - but what league are the Colo Rapids Reserve IN? If the match wasn't a friendly then what was in it for The Rapids reserve? Was it a half-friendly?

The game counts in both USL PRO standings (for Harrisburg City) as well MLS Reserve League standings (for Colorado reserve team purposes). See the link for the current MLS Reserve League standings - Colorado's record reflects that loss to HCI.

I believe it works as the Rapids reserve team (and others like them) play a certain amount of games against USL teams and against each other. The games count in the standings for the USL team and the reserves. The reserves show on the MLSSoccer.com page (found under Schedule and stats/reserve league). MLS teams had the option of starting their own USL team (no team went this route yet), partnering with a USL (Unions choice) or still having the reserve league games.

Edit - and I am way late on the reply as Zman beat me by a milw

This somehow makes more sense than most MLS operations.

HCI leading 2-1 in 2nd half - goals by McLaughlin and Ekra.

    City Islanders@city_islanders 1h
@city_islanders starting line: Noble, Anding, Jordan, Andrews, Zizzi, Brandt, Hernandez, Ekra, Mellor, McLaughlin and Touray

HCI (Philly's affiliate) beats Rochester (New England's affiliate) 5-1.

Ex-Union trialist, Lucky Mkosana scored 2 goals. All of the Union players were starters - McLaughlin had a goal and Anding had an assist. Not a good night for Bimbo teams (like the Union, Rochester's jersey sponsor is Bimbo).

Of the Union guys. I thought Anding shined the most. He came forward a lot from his left back position, overlap
In nicely with Mellor and earning an assist. McLaughlin is so dangerous running at defenders with the ball, and Jordan did a great job in the first half when the defense was a little shaky. Hernandez was a little quiet tonight, although he still sprayed some great balls around the pitch and has great vision. For more, head over to the City Islanders forum, it was a fun night with some great soccer by the home team.

I know I gushed about him on the HCI forum, but he had a hell of a game at left back against Rochester, his best performance of the season in my opinion. He's got wheels, gets forward well, and is strong in the tackle. He certainly shined on Saturday, I'd like to see a little more to gauge his crossing ability, but he had a nice assist on Lucky's first goal.

Despite finally having a target forward like Casey to get on the end of crosses during the run of play, the ability to have the RM, LM, RB or LB cross the ball from the flanks is not a Union job requirement.;)

True that, unless you have an epic throw-in in lieu of crossing with your feet...

City Islanders lost to Charleston 2-1 last night, Hernandez scored a fantastic goal, a left-footed strike from outside the box. Hernandez and Jordan went the full 90 while Anding and McLaughlin were second-half subs. Jordan was booked and had an okay night, not at fault for either goal (a wonder volley and penalty), Hernandez was very good orchestrating the attack, he's so smooth on the ball, seems to work on a different level than some of his teammates in terms of anticipating play and distributing, McLaughlin provided a little second-half spark although I wish he started over Morgan Langley (who was largely useless), and Anding came in to push up the left flank. Hernandez perhaps made the biggest impact of the Union loanees last night, but with HCI playing at Rochester on Saturday, the third match in seven days, some key players were rested or injured, resulting in an uneven performance.

Another win for the Harrisburg City Islanders, 1-0 at Rochester. Harrisburg improves to 4-1 on the season, former Union player Morgan Langley with the lone goal. Greg Jordan played the full 90, Cristhian Hernandez started and logged 83 minutes, and new loanee Leo Fernandes started and played 73 min. Jimmy McLaughlin did not play after getting a knock in training. Harrisburg hosts Antigua next Friday before welcoming league-leading Orlando the week after that. First clean sheet of the year for the team, a nice way to rebound after dropping a mid-week match against Charleston.

HCI beats Antigua 4-0 tonight in Harrisburg. Jordan (CB) and Anding (started as LM, ended as LB) played the full 90 minutes - Hernandez (CM/AM) started but was subbed late in the 1st half after getting a knock. McLaughlin was injured and did not make the gameday roster. Fernandes was a second half sub. In terms of Union scoring, Fernandes scored the 4th goal directly from a free kick outside the box - Jordan had an assist on the 2nd goal.

Reading United beat Lehigh Valley 2-0 tonight in the U.S. Open Cup, setting up a 2nd Round showdown with fellow Union affiliate Harrisburg next Tuesday in Reading. Decent crowd for a Tuesday night match away from the usual home venue (it was played in nearby Oley), very strong performance by Reading who twice hit the post and dominated possession. Goals by Darius Madison (after a nice square pass from Larry Ndjock) and an incredible strike from Steve Neumann, a rocket blasted from a tough angle. Good showing from Neumann, he's a very capable midfielder, perhaps a Graham Zusi if he can improve his restarts, and Mario Pinto showed pretty well too despite not scoring. Ben Sweat and Manolo Sanchez also looked decent, Manolo more so in the first half. Reading is big, fast, and technically savvy. Lehigh Valley played stout defensively but didn't threaten or possess the ball enough. I'd assume Philly plays the winner of Reading-Harrisburg in the 3rd round? Reading will have played 48 hours earlier and Harrisburg will have a few extra days of rest, but it should be another tight Open Cup clash between affiliates that have had heated contests in the past.

As we have learned last year, they do try to keep the affiliates away from each other as long as they can so I doubt the union would be playing them in the third round.

I hope so, but we'll find out any minute now. Draw is complete, just waiting on announcement. Either way it's a shame that Reading and Harrisburg face each other for the third time in five years.
