Now that the season is over. All emotions and sentimality aside ,what do people think would be beneficial for the team. Him Staying on another year or Retiring now at the top?
I think he *should* retire. There are some benefits to him sticking around. He'll be a member of the squad for rotational purposes and certainly of use again. Mainly though he'll be a squaddie and there to show some of the young uns what to do. However, that's not in his makeup. He'd be entirely frustrated by it.
I would agree. Don't think he will stick around if he does not play atleast as many games as this season and probably wants to speak to Sir Alex about that.
I really hope he stays. He didn't have a great season, but he's still miles ahead of the other midfielders on our team on the ball. He can't be used against even mediocre opposition for more than a half in a 2 man midfield, but in a 3 man midfield he's still capable of an hour of wonderful play. Obviously, we also need a long term replacement for him. Anderson can be our creative midfielder at home against most teams, but has yet to prove himself capable of much more. It wouldn't happen for a million reasons, but removing emotion and speaking objectively, he should really be playing in the Italian or Spanish league. Put him alongside two energetic midfielders in such a league and he'd still glisten.
Scholes retires to join the coaching staff. The one Manchester United player that I really admired. Amazing player.
I miss him.... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Peyj92bL7DU&feature=share"]Paul Scholes - Dr Shoot - YouTube[/ame]
Thanks for your contribution...by bringing up a 5 year old thread without adding anything of substance. Stop by anytime.
The fact that we still are yet to see a player like Scholes, not just at United but in English football, is proof right there of how special and one of a kind he was. He really was one of the truly great ones.
The idea that you can just say "develop another Scholes" is an insult to Scholes. People often cite the Class of 92 as something United should easily repeat, as if it wasn't one of the all-time rarities to get that calibre of players all at once. You don't just develop another Scholes. It's not that damn easy. It's as if people think we are trying to do something else - trying to develop shitty players. Of course Joyce and Butt and everyone are trying to get another Scholes, another Becks, another whoever you want to name. It's not easy.
