Been looking to see where (here in England) I can change some money in to Ukrainian before I head out. I have to say I'm struggling to find anywhere.

Can anyone recomend anywhere (travel agent etc) that does Ukrainian exchange? Or alternatively anyone who's familiar with Kiev got any advice on best place to change money when we get there?

I'd guess the airports will have cash machines. If you are flying to Kiev I'd be staggered if they didn't. At very least they'd have bureau de change facilities.

As long as it's a convertable currency, most major High Street banks are generally able to order currency for collection. You sometime have to ask though.

I have been advised that the currency is impossiblt to buy in England and that you can use ATM machine or take US Dollars, but ask for new notes!

I forgot to ask about changing the stuff back, but I guess its best not to come back with any!!

Just take it out of a cash machine when you get there in one or two lump sums. You will pay a fee anywhere you go I suppose, so cash machine prob easiest.

Spoke to somebody from the PO today. They said as there is a limit of 1000UAH (+/- GBP 80) permitted to enter the country without custom forms having to be completed and only 85 UAH permitted out (souvenir?), they are advising USD as best currency to carry followed jointly by Euro and GBP.

Dollars - euros - pounds in that order. Try to be sure the notes are relatively new.

Obmen valyut are everywhere in Ukraine.

You'd better come to Ukraine either with limited amount of hryvnas (about 400) or with credit card and change the same amount in the airport or else. Then try to find an exchange out of the airport, train station or hotel. You'll get better rate.

what are you talking about?
    Currency Import regulations:

Foreign currencies: up to USD 10,000.-, or equivalent in other foreign currency. Passengers must fill in customs declaration upon entry if holding exceeding amounts.

i'm from kiev and want advise you to change some money in UK but not in airport in Kiev because it's such expensive, so you might lost a lot if you would like to change big amount. also be prepared for expensive airport taxis next to airport(but mb for UK citizens it wont be). Dear Ukrainian guests of Ukraine if you have global question about our county please ask me pm, i just want you to have left a good impressions of my country.:)

What's a good exchange rate from USD to UAH now? I know that I shouldn't get much UAH at airport but it'll be good to know a "good rate" that I can compare with.

just use an ATM. There's no need to take out your entire budget in one go.

Just got back. Better exchange rate out there but my advice would be change your money for Euros here then change Euros for Hryvnia when you're out there. There were places on just about every street in kiev that would exchange euros, not all would change pounds though.

I just used normal cash machines out there and got 12.2 to the £, which seems a far better rate than anything offered in the UK.

There really is no need to take out a lump sum in the UK at a bad rate. Just make sure you tell your bank you'll be in the country, or sometimes they'll block your cards.

I just gave the Post Office a couple of days notice, no problems. Only took £50 worth as it was only a day trip, never in any danger of spending it all.
