Yea I don't disagree. Everything is possible theoretically but how many Istanbuls can we possibly have?
I recall some pundits saying that in 2005 before we met Bayer Leverkusen, and then again before we played Juventus.
"A lot of football success is in the mind. You must believe you are the best and then make sure that you are"----Shanks
I repeat - we may have a significantly stronger side in January. Hell - Borini will be back as well, Lucas will (knock on wood) be available for those games too.
Pretty good stats for the away team in Italy - which is notoriously a difficult place to play. MATCH STATS Udinese Liverpool 9(3) Shots (on goal) 10(5) 15 Fouls 14 6 Corner kicks 9 0 Offsides 2 41% Time of Possession 59% 3 Yellow Cards 3 1 Red Cards 0 8 Saves 3
The UEFA cup will always hold a special place for. Our run in 2001 was the first time I was able to see the games on a regular basis having just got fox soccer. I always want to win it and we should be good enough.
Me too, but my mind goes back to the 1973 final. I was 9, we won 3-0 at home and lost 2-0 away. Monchengladbach were 2 up by half time, the second half lasted an eternity. The home leg counts for as the first "cup" I ever saw won live.
Team plane was taken out of service with equipment problems and team had to stay over tonight in Udine before flying home tomorrow
We got the job done! Well done, BR and the lads! Very tight group at the end. I always thought we could win at Udinese, I felt we should have beaten them at Anfield but we failed to take our chances to get the second goal and kill the game there. We looked able to create chances against them which boded well for this game. Qualification is mission accomplished at this stage of the season. Good to see we did not concede a last minute heartbreaking equaliser to deny us qualification, as happened in the last game.
Other than Atletico, there isn't a team in the 2nd pot that is really 'on form' right now. Don't see why we should be afraid of anybody in that pot - especially if we add the right player or two this January.
We failed to be clinical given our chances. I wonder if Suarez is wondering why he's spending his best years laying balls off to Suso and Shelvey who are at least 2-3 years away from being confident finishers. I thought Joe Allen was better. He looks really uncomfortable in a DMF position, and he overcompensates by making ridiculous near-box challenges. Yet he's not an AMF either, capable of shouldering an opponent off the ball. His passing and control were good yesterday, but we need Lucas in his spot, Gerrard pushed forward, and Allen in the middle. I'm unwilling to give up on Henderson. I think he's among a group who are capable of being first team Liverpool players. By year's end Rodgers should know who those players are.
I said this a few weeks back as well - he makes some blatantly poor challenges and then throws his hands up and shrugs because he knows exactly what he's done. Surprised it hasn't cost us a free kick goal yet (knock on wood).
