I have to say I never thought much of RW. Why havent they gone with a permanent u23 coach to get rid of him?

I think the answer is money. Actually, I think it is less important at the u23 level. When Irwin was the coach, he only really had a choice in 2-3 of the squad. The rest was players the Nat coach wanted to see.

Even then, it was decisions late in the selection cycle when college players were not available.

Have to say Havana Solaun (F/Florida) is a bit of a surprise.

How could you not include a name like that?

I agree. She gets included along with Imani Dorsey.

She is actually the second D1 player with that name. The first was an All American.

    She should count double.

I dont know how the offense does but I could live with a back line of Anasi Johnston Cutshall and Levin

That is a very powerful group. I'd really like to see Johnston back in midfield at some point, but I think she's pegged as a defender after WC...
Oh well, if we even get a score or a snapshot from this tournament, we'll be lucky.

Dunn and the older Mewis got called up for Algarve with the senior team, along with Horan. Don't know about the rest of the UNC crew, but I am surprised by some of the omissions too. One thing I remember from last year is that a few players who didn't show up on the Spain roster, showed up on the Denmark roster later. Or was it Sweden? Whatever the country, some of the expected faces showed up on the later roster.

Waldrum tweet from 2013 La Manga tournament:
    @NDCoachWaldrum
U-23's defeat Norway 3-1 on goals by McCarty, Pressley, & Ochs! Great start USA! 1st International game for Williams & Solaun, congrats

Yeah, Clive - What did you do with Amber? Seriously, folks, she tweeted good luck to Coach Randy, who tweeted back: "Thanks Amber, wish you were here!"
Like last year, Waldrum is effectively serving as the Sports Information Director, as well as coach, for the U-23s.

Unfortunately, however, Casey Short tore her ACL and MCL in the first half. Harsh luck.

Looks like Notre Dame has taken down Coach Waldrun's blog on LaManga tournament....

US soccer tweeted yesterday that there would be a write-up of USA v Sweden, but nothing is posted yet. Once again, hardly any information leaks out of La Manga... unless you speak Swedish! This website contains more information than anything I've seen so far, plus video of Sweden v England. I'm hoping they'll post Sweden v USA today...
