How demented is it to be calling a GK to our U18 national team when he doesn't even play in the U18 division of the DA?
For those that don't know, Brian Iloski is a small, creative center mid from the San Diego area who recently joined the Galaxy academy, where he can regularly see one of his cousins, Galaxy assistant Jovan Kirovski. Iloski was featured last year on Nike's The Chance (an international Sueno type show) and made the final 16 - from a worldwide pool. He has verbally committed to Cal for this fall but he was not included in the school's release of it's new recruits so he is probably keeping that on hold, for now.
Two more... 10mUSAprospects @USAprospects Jacori Hayes (Baltimore Bays Chelsea U18) also on US U18 roster #usynt Expand 14mUSAprospects @USAprospects Add De Anza Force scoring ace Jason Romero to the US U18 roster. Romero is a talent forward with plenty of pro options #usynt Expand
Jason Romero has 15 goals in 18 games for De Anza this year. http://ussda.demosphere.com/teams/47158256/47187490-47158344/39402985.html
Story on TDS yesterday about Iloski: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer-articles/pro-prospects:-iloski-enjoys-his-chance_aid28567 Despite not finishing as one of the three winners, there still is plenty that Iloski has to look forward to when it comes to soccer. After the trip, he joined the LA Galaxy U18 Academy squad, and will play and train with the talented group through at least the rest of the Academy season. “[LA] invited me, they kind of brought it up, and I liked the idea so I decided to go for it,” he said. There, Iloski will also have the opportunity to possibly compete with the Galaxy at the Dallas Cup Super Group, which would give him more chances to play in front of coaches and scouts from around the world, not to mention being connected with the MLS club.
No kidding....................... With the players confirmed on this forum, we know ~15 of the 20 players. It looks like we need to add at least one more goalkeeper and a couple of defenders. The midfield and forward group looks pretty stacked. This recent tweet was interesting, no? Maki Tall? USAprospects @USAprospects Cannot confirm but hearing Chivas USA's Marky Delgado will be making trip. Also heard an in-form French striker was invited but busy #usynt
It sure seems silly the USSF hasn't announced it when the players themselves are tweeting it. This ain't 1999 or even 2009. Much harder to contain information and simultaneously interest is greater than ever. They need to adapt and be more prompt and thorough. It's not like there were loads of other things going on yesterday for US Soccer to report on. How long could it take to put together a release? I bet it could be done properly in half an hour. Agreed about the attack. Times sure have changed for US teams when the attack continues to be the strength. As for another GK, this was on twitter yesterday. J.R. Eskilson @JREskilson @USAprospects Ethan Horvath is also on the tour. I assume he meant Tall but I don't know the pool well enough to say for certain.
With Horvath in the mix we can come pretty close to making our own roster I have 17 out of the 20..............and I can't find many defenders there. Even Kellyn Acosta is playing a lot of midfield for FCD. So one suspects what we're missing is the defenders. Michael Amick? Sulaiman Dainkeh? Dylan Greenberg? Jalen Markey? Keepers Ethan Horvath (????), JT Marcinowski (San Jose) Defenders Trevor Haberkorn (Solar Chelsea), Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Matt Miazga (RBNY) Midfielders Marky Delgado (Chivas USA), Zach Pfeffer (Hoffenheim/Union), Russell Cannouse (Hoffenheim), Jacori Hayes (Baltimore Bays), Brian Iloski (Galaxy), Jordan Allen (RSL), Romain Gall (Lorient), Piakai Henkel (Amiens) Forwards Jason Romero (de Anza Force), Paul Arriola (Galaxy), Ben Spencer (Molde), Julian Green (Bayern)
Oh yeah.............we're likely to be playing against Maki Tall: http://www.fff.fr/equipes-de-france/8/u18/derniere-selection
I saw somewhere or other that Dainkeh is in. So that takes us to 18. IMO we should be looking more closely for Mexico based players considering how well they did in u-20 qualifying. I find it hard to believe there's nobody in Mexico worth taking a look at.
I was wondering this too. Only explanation I could think of is ussf has tried to call up players in Mexico and clubs not releasing them for u18s or not trying at all. Guys like Jason Romero and Benji Lopez already have offers from teams.
Also interesting to note that Armando Moreno is on the bench for the NYRB today so I guess that rules him out for this trip
