Write-up on today's USA-Mexico game: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-17-MNT/2012/04/U17-MNT-Defeats-Mexico-at-Mondial-Minimes.aspx
@John - I assume Real Corona was being sarcastic and really hope you are too! On the serious side - one youth result does not determine which nation has better youth players - except maybe in a World YOUTH Cup final or some such game.
Which Mexican player two years ago was better than a 2010 Donovan or right now is better than Dempsey (and no, Chicharito is not the right answer, see EPL scorers table). One player doesn't make a team. We have no idea which youth team is better, as it was a 1-0 result. IIRC, we beat Italy 1-0 not so long ago. I'm not saying they are better than us, but this game definitely does not mean we are better than them.
Junior Flores, Wesley Wade, and Rubio Rubin are the 3 most talented players out of this group. I don't follow the Mexican youth teams so I wouldn't know if they have players better than those 3.
This is the greatest group of Americans to ever be assembled within France, knocking the soldiers who stormed the beaches at Normandy into a distant second place.
Off the top of my head (based on U17 WC roster): - Carlos Fierro - Jonathan Espericueta - Julio Gomez - Marco Bueno - Giovani Casillas - Erick Torres (not on U17 roster, but he's like 18-19)
No. - Carlos Fierro (July 24, 1994) - Jonathan Espericueta (August 9, 1994) - Julio Gomez (August 13, 1994) - Marco Bueno (March 31, 1994) - Giovani Casillas (January 4, 1994) - Erick Torres (January 19, 1993) But this is a pointless debate.
Do you think Mexico's team is better than the French, Turkish, and Brazilian teams that we played against in the Nike Friendlies?
No idea.............I didn't see this Mexico team. Nobody did. For all I know Mexico completely dominated us, and they just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net.
Until we start winning some games and tournament on a consistant basis, we can not compare our selves to the Mexicans. Right now they have the better teams on every age group. And they have the silverware to prove it.
This new group of Mexican U17s haven't won anything yet so I don't see how you can say that they are better.
So should we base our opinion off of very little information or not? Clearly past performance does not guarantee future results for Mexico or the U.S. but can you tone down the rhetoric, especially since you admit elsewhere that you don't know anything about the Mexican team at this age level?
