Fwiw Oswaldo had slippery hands early in his career too but he ended up the best Mexican keeper of his era.

He said in interview people used to clown on him in pick up games because of that.

If Nicoletti were the best keeper he would have played but El Potro probably saw that Sanchez is better.

True, but Potro made some pretty baffling decisions. IE: Not playing Casillas more, playing Escamilla so much, Not playing Solorio more, etc.

BTW, I'm not a Sanchez hater by any means. The dude's got a bunch of potential.

Casillas started a game in group stages and he was nowhere to be found. Casillas was more effective coming in as a sub. I love how you are complaining about moves a coach made after going 7-0 and winning the world cup.

They can't win both the golden boot and a ball?

Pfft...I'm sorry but this is a forum I can voice my opinions if I wish.

If there is one thing I'll give credit for is the mentality of the team. All heart and guts.

What was the deal with Solario not playing? Did he get hurt again? I mean he was the captain and the best defender/player of the team and not play after he got healthy?? That doesn't seem right.

Sure they can, but usually the ball goes to someone whose team plays on the final day.

I think Yesil's record is as impressive if not more. He scored less "only" 7 goals in 7 matches if I remember correctly but he achieved also 6 assists which make it to a total of 13 scorerpoints in 7 matches.

Yes, I think Messi won both on the 2005 U-20 wc.

FIFA wants you to vote for the goal of the tournament... the epic goal by Julio Gomez is there.

    http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/goalofthetournament/index.html

They got 2 goals from brazilians neither of which is that amazing, yet the Fierro goal against France didn't make it... typical of FIFA... they also got that fluke goal by the canadian goalkeeper.

Just because he won the whole tournament undefeated, doesn't mean he didn't make any mistakes. It is ridicolous to insinuate that he did everything perfectly. I would agree that at this point Casillas was better used as a sub, but I think he should have been subbed earlier every game. Solorio definately had to start after he came back from his injury. I too did not like Escamilla getting that much playing time. He was constantly making some serious errors and had it not been for Espericueta or the backline covering him, we would have been in some serious trouble. He also took WAY too many shots and not a one was even close. All in all we won the Mundial which is what everyone wants, but it isn't wrong to question some of the tecnico's decisions, especially when it could have meant playing even better.

    +1

I'd imagine accredited press voted, and since a plurality if not majority of the press was Mexican ...

WTF?!? How in the world is a Gol Olimpico not in there??

Those goals are incredibly rare and require some of the best technique seen when hitting the ball.

the top prospects ranked in order imho...

    1. espericueta - has touch, passing, vision, just a little raw but most potential
    2. briseno - great size, aerial game, and leader, needs to work on one-on-one defending
    3. fiero - has "it" factor like chicharito. great awareness and speed. still young, needs to fill out and get a bit stronger. a little growth spurt would help him.
    4. casillas - great skill but not sure if he has world class speed for elite winger.
    5. sanchez - can't teach size and has great reflexes when he doesn't think, but needs better positional awareness and softer hands.

the others have limitations that may hurt them but still could be very good pros.

    1. bueno - great poste now but what happens when the defenders are men and at least as big or strong as he is if not bigger and stronger
    2. gomez - reminds me of villaluz but better upside
    3. gonzalez - saw flashes of zihna type player, maybe could turn into something
    4. gracia - this guy has all the skills but something is missing, i hope i'm wrong
