Pinned in our own end most of the half, looking to counter. This is more of what I expected. Jeremiah White may be our new Designated Thrower, that was quite a toss to make Rory Delap proud.
Campisi remids me of Mike Videira. Purdie sets up White for the goal. White should've finished one-time, but got it done in the end. The Purdie pass was excellently weighted.
Who's 81 at LM? Big, shaved-head guy. He's made a couple tough tackles and some tidy touches under pressure.
Our cup hopes are alive! Weird at the end there where I recognized maybe one guy for the Revolution. Thought maybe they had swapped in the Impact just for laughs.
Well of the trialist, I thought the German looked pretty decent back there and White was pretty active as well I liked what I saw from Purdy, Roach and Polak too Still need a LB but right now, I think its all Tierneys and that is not very promising
I know it's preseason and results mean nothing but beating the defending champs must make Heaps and co. feel good, at least a little. I for one, was not expecting a win for the boys in blue. We ever so desperately need a LB and a true #9 (I don't think Moreno or Sene is the guy).
I thought Polak looked very hesitant and he never should've been beaten to that one ball on the sideline by Keat. So instead of seeing the German Guy at LB, we saw him at RB, following Barnes at RB in the first half. Is all of this a shot across the bow of Kevin Alston?
Huge props to the guy who loaned mlssoccer.com use his flipcam to video the game. I see why they like Purdie. He seems like a great late game sub at this point - big, and active. Polak looked very green. How about Weird Steve at CB? Also liked Cardenas for what little time he was put there - quick. Should I be concerned that Tom Cruise wasn't there?
Why didn't Cruise play? Isn't the reason we brought him in on trial to see how he "played" and fit in with the team? Makes little sense unless the 20 year old was way out of shape and unfit.
I want to see what Roach would look like next to Shalrie in an enforcer's role, with more bite than Simms. In fact, in Ben Olsen's interview last week, he talked about not having enough bite in the midfield last year, and of course that meant Simms. Roach seemed to have a good combo of size and quick feet. Cardenas looks like he'll be for us exactly what he was for America de Cali--a supersub to run at and juke tired defenders from minute 60 on. Mercier held down the CB position well enough. Rundstrom--who knows. I don't think the game told us enough either way. Polak also looked lousy to me at the Combine, so this is becoming a concern.
You always want to win the games you're in no matter what the circumstances. Can't say a whole lot because I was watching Revs and Bruins simutaneously, but the style they played with the heavy ball pressure was a welcome change as opposed to the reactionary approach we saw last year.
I liked what I saw from Björn Runström, he's bigger then I thought he was. But he held the ball up well, made some pretty good runs (even though they didn't get the ball to him that often) Plus I didn't see any wayward passes from him either. He seemed to do more then Brettschneider for sure. I would like to see him paired up top with Sene next game. Sene playing off of Bjorn seems more attractive to me.
Nice to show we can win no matter who we play---BC or LA --- same-same Looks like Heaps has made some interesting additions to the roster with a few more under consideration. Who of the current players in camp and other as yet unnamed players on the Revs radar will make the final roster and how well they will play is still an unknown but after tonights showing it's looking like the 2012 roster may yet shock us all and possibly turn out to be competitive. I liked the revamped energy and style of play.
Used 24 players and several different formations. Hard to say at this point who the 28 or 30 on the roster will be. Given the way the roster is coming together, the starting XI may vary week to week, even without injury, as Heaps picks out his starters and formation with an eye to the opponents. . . very un-Nicolish. Interesting Cruise was held out -- wonder when he arrived. Maybe he gets his trial this weekend in game two. Any word on the injuries to Alston and progress with Guy and Nyassi? I sure wish they gave some info on this.
Calm down Doc, it's one preseason game against decent opposition. You can never read too much into preseason results, especially since before I stopped watching LA had many near misses. I will, however, agree with your second point. Looks like Heaps really wants our midfielders to press, which is a very nice change.
