It happened on 72nd Street. I'm working on 86th at the moment, I hope this doesn't affect my commute home. I had one of the worst days imaginable and I have a huge presentation to prepare for tomorrow.

A bunch of helicopters are flying above the neighborhood and firetrucks are rushing by.

My family has an apartment on 74th and 1st. My parents are sure gonna be happy they're out of town. I know exactly which building it is that got hit. There's alot of really expensive apartments in that building...

How can a helicopter hit a building like this just like that? That's very suspicious. NORAD says it didn't even pick anything up.

What I find odd about it is how does a plane fly so low in the city without any government agency knowing.. I see we've learned alot since 9-11..

I heard that one eyewitness saw the aircraft circling the building before it happened.

not entirely. Helicopters routinely fly around, for the news, weather and even the police. Not out of the realm of possibiliy someone simply lost control or had some mechanical failure.

unless they were targeting someone in those apartments, this has got to be an accident.

and if it is a terrorist act it's one of the stupider ones.

Whatever it was, it was once again poorly handled.

Well, up to now, it's America 2 - Terrorists 576, I doubt this would change the score if it was the case.

well there hasn't been a single terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11. The authorities have stopped more than a few, you had the ones in London, but then they did a great job of stuffing that recent terrorist plot.....I'd say the score was fairly even!

Wrong, because those aren't the only variables involved. The fear implemented by the BUsh Administration and all of it's defensive and foreign politic changes have certainly benefitted the various terrorist groups out there, in the long run.

It's a small aircraft that lost control over the city and hit a building. Doesn't seem to be any evidence of anything more at this point.

Can we keep this on topic? It's already an NSR thread, and there is a politics forum for the other stuff.

The two rivers around Manhattan have unrestricted airspace, meaning that small planes can fly anywhere in those areas without a flight plan.

I find it incredibly stupid that everyone is commending the work of the fire-fighters but the fire's still freakin burning!
