ASHGABAT – Iran’s youth team defeated Mika 1-0 on Thursday as the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers finished third in the ten-team Turkmenistan President’s Cup.

Ahmad Amirkamdar’s long-range effort in the 27th minute was enough to give the Iranians the victory over the five-time Armenian Cup champions as Nenad Nikolic’s side made a fine start to their preparations for October’s Asian youth meet in Saudi Arabia.

Turkmenistan Cup holders MTTU will take on Ashgabat FC in the final on Friday in a repeat last year’s final, in which the two-time Turkmen league champions twice came from behind to win 3-2.

ASHGABAT – MTTU kept hold of the Turkmenistan President’s Cup after coming from a goal down to defeat Turkmen league champions 2-1 in the final of the ten-team tournament.

AFC President’s Cup qualifiers Ashgabat took the lead in the 13th minute through Arif Mirzoev but for the second successive final MTTU would come from behind to take the trophy.

The Students, who twice fought back to defeat Ashgabat 3-2 and win the 2007 Turkmenistan President’s Cup, got on level terms when Perkhat Podarov equalised before Berdy Shamuradov scored three minutes into the second-half with the goal that gave MTTU the trophy and the US$20,000 winners’ cheque.

turkmenistan has good players but football federation is working so poor that we didnt participated in afc cup 2007, and that caused to decrease in fifa rankings and finally afc changed our status from "developing nations" to "emerging nations".
Thus, we play in "afc challenge cup" and our clubs will play in "president's cup".
recent months our federation's president changed, and i hope in the future, we will be back again in the "top 16 asian teams".
We should learn more from brother uzbeks. :)

ASHGABAT: Merv overcame defending champions Ashgabat 3-2 to win the Turkmenistan Super Cup recently.

Vitaliy Alikperov opened the scoring for the last year’s Turkmenistan Cup winners in the eighth minute and David Ayrumyan doubled the advantage 12 minutes later.

Parakhat Annaberdyev (43) and Arif Mirzoev (71) restored the parity for the 2008 Turkmenistan League winners but Alikperov’s strike five minutes from time gave Merv the victory.

MALE: Turkmenistan brushed aside Philippines 5-0 to qualify for the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup while hosts Maldives crushed 10-man Bhutan by the same scoreline in their final qualifying game on Saturday.

Four goals in the space of 11 minutes ensured qualification for the Central Asians after an own goal by Philippines defender Del Rosario Quimson opened their account in the 26th minute.

Striker Berdy Shamuradov doubled the advantage in the 54th minute while Mekan Nasyrov made it 3-0 four minutes later. Shamuradov completed his brace in the 63rd minute while substitute Didarklych Urazov netted their fifth two minutes later.

Turkmenistan coach Boris Grigoryants was happy with his team’s perfect record in the qualifying campaign.

“We are happy that we won all the games and the players achieved the target. Our players missed a lot of chances otherwise the difference could have been much higher.”

“We will be one of the toughest team in the AFC Challenge Cup next year and will try to qualify for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.”

Two goals each from captain Ali Ashfaq and Ibrahim Fazeel saw Maldives finish second in the group with six points. Mohamed Umair scored their fifth goal ten minutes from time, a minute after Bhutan defender Pema was given his marching orders.

The domestic season has kicked off this weekend:

Gara Altyn Balkanabat and FC Ahal withdrew from the league.

    Format change

Due to the aforesaid withdrawals, the format of the league has changed. Since there are only 9 clubs that participate in 2009 Ýokary Liga, every team plays 4 times against every other team, what will make every team playing 32 games.

    Turkmenistan champions Ashgabat FC.
DHAKA: Turkmenistan champions Ashgabat held hosts Dhaka Abahani goalless and booked a semi-final berth in the AFC President’s Cup at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday.

Both Ashgabat and Abahani finished with four points each but better goal difference saw Ashgabat through.

Ashgabat thrashed Sri Lanka Army 5-1 and Dhaka Abahani beat the Sri Lankan outfit, the other team of the three team group, 2-1. Abahani still have a chance to reach the last four as the best runners-up among the three groups.

Ashgabat adopted a defencive approach while Abahani, enjoying the support of about 10,000 home crowd, squandered a couple of chances that fell in their way.

Emily and Zahed Parvez wasted easy opportunities while Hangeldiyev Guvanch let down his team in the first half.

Ashgabat coach Boris Grigoryantis said: “We adopted a defencive approach because winning the group was our main target.”

Abahani coach Amalesh Sen was happy with his team’s performance. “The players played according to the plan and our only weakness was not scoring a goal.”

ASHGABAT: Club football in Turkmenistan received a boost when a relatively unknown club - Altyn Asyr – clinched the Turkmenistan Cup crown recently.

Altyn Asyr, which was founded only last year, clinched their maiden title beating Merv 3-0 in the final.

Ali Gurbani’s charges, who finished fifth in the nine-team league recently, were in control right from the start when Abdulla Gurbannepesov put them ahead in the fifth minute and an own goal by Vitaliy Alikperov doubled their advantage two minutes later.

Murad Bayliyev’s 17th-minute strike sealed the fate of Merv.

An elated Gurbani said: “Our target was to qualify for the final but I am delighted that the boys did not stop there and won their first trophy.”

“We played defensive and relied on fast counter attacks which proved effective.”

Earlier, Merv beat Nebitchi 3-0 on aggregate (2-0 and 1-0) while Altyn Asyr knocked out league champions MTTU on away goals after the aggregate score was levelled at 3-3. Their first leg ended goalless and Altyn Asyr snatched a 3-3 draw away.

Merv beat MTTU 2-1 in last year’s final.

The Turkmenistan club, who will play in the AFC President’s Cup this year, lost to Russian Club Select 4-2. They had made it to the last eight after winning their opener as the Russian side has only an academic interest in the tournament.

Anton Kucherenkov and Berdy Shamuradov (pictured) were on target for MTTU, who will face Ukraine giants Dynamo Kiev in the third round on Tuesday.

Bunyodkor will meet Lithuanian side Ekranas, Tajikistan’s Vakhsh will face HJK (Finland) and former AFC President’s Cup champions Dordoi-Dynamo will lock horns against Latvia’s Metallurg also on Tuesday.
