"In Turkey, Women Playing Soccer Vie for Acceptance" http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/sports/soccer/04soccer.html
Very interesting article. Turkey's u19 National team is vying for 5th place vs. Belarus in the Annual Kuban Spring Tournament, which ends tomorrow March 22nd in Krasnodar, Russia. No small feat, actually, considering there are ten teams in the tournament overall. The Region 1 ODP team representing the U.S. plays the Chinese U19 National Team in tomorrow's final, having tied the u19 Russian National Team and beaten the u19 national teams of Estonia, Turkey, and Poland. Other teams involved in the competetion are Belarus, Bulgaria, and a club team from the host city, Krasnodar.
The US Region 1 squad gave the Chinese U19s their biggest challenge of the tournament. China's closest game before the final had been a 2-0 win. US ties them 1-1 and drops it 5-4 in PKs. Not bad vs. U19 Nat'l Teams, considering the Region 1's didn't play together as a team until arriving in Russia. Great tournament, ladies.
