Add 5 more to that group. 9:30pm local time kickoff... wow!! Should be nice and festive by that time. Metro there is easy, and the trip back will be alot of "fun" especially if (...errr..when) the US wins. Eddie, assuming the riot guard will escort us to the Metro afterwards, like last time? CAN......NOT.......WAIT.....!!!
Add 2 more. My bud and I went down in '09 and it is about as good as it gets. I would expect that USSoccer will work with the US State Dept, just like last time, to assure that there are plenty of policia to escort our gringo culos to the subway.
We ditched the escorted group last time and just joined the rest of the crowd in the shuffle to the light rail. No problem, but it helps to have a zen perspective to relax into such a large crowd. Bought plane tickets yesterday when I saw a decent fare. Next step, match tickets. I hope that the USSF will accomodate. Getting excited as well. First trip back to DF since that (disappointing) 2009 game. I think that kickoff is 8:30 local as Mexico is still on Standard Time on March 26.
I did feel that $180 was pretty expensive for ticket and bus... but I am able to sleep at night knowing it is all taken care of for me. The perks of having a job and not being a student, as I was all the years I used to travel a lot (and count my pennies).
My e-mail to US Soccer got the response of "ticket information will hopefully be available in late February" for anybody else wondering. Good to see we're building up a decent group taking the metro. Count 2 more for us. I take it we'll just plan on meeting at the AO hotel or what?
There were 30-40 or so that took the metro last time and we all met at the Galeria Plaza Hotel and went en masse. Loved the stares we got walking down to Insurgentes. I suggest we do the same this time to keep it simple. The AO's are going by bus anyway so no point in meeting at their hotel.
AO members not paying for the package and/or bus may have chosen that location though. It doesn't matter to me where, I'm willing to go wherever the most people are staying to meet up. We're staying right near the Zocalo.
Well there were others, myself included, who did not meet @ Galeria Plaza but simply left our hotel and walked straight to the metro stop. No problems. My point being that it is not risky to ride the trains. The stations and trains are so crowded with everyday people going about their business. Now having said that, if we pull off another real AZTECAZO in March expect to be quarantined in the stadium for hours afterwards.
I read that the Metro fare increased to MX$3 and remember that you must transfer to the light rail at Tasqueña and pay another MX$3 fare, so MX$12 round trip.
Quick question for all those who booked a reservation @ Hotel Catedral-- Did you receive a confirmation e-mail from them ? I have not and am wondering if I need to re do it?
Hoping to lock in the trip this week (waiting on other people to make up their mind). Most likely we wouldn't do the AO bus package either, price seems a little steep.
5 brothers and a friend going. We got our air and hotel the day they announced. Now we just need tickets for the game. I noticed US Soccer didn't do anything for USA v. Honduras on Feb 6. Will they do anything for MEX on 3/26? Are tickets on sale in MEX? Since this is a monumental event, we want good seats. I don't know if I trust US Soccer enough to wait until the end of February. Does anyone else know any reliable sources other than AO.
Hi Everyone. I'm new to this forum. I've never traveled for Team USA, but I just got a flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City for 3/25-3/28. I'm definitely interested in a joining a group that will go to the stadium and sit together. Like others have mentioned, I look forward to really taking in what will be a hardcore footballing environment!
While US Soccer did sell tickets for the match in San Pedro Sula, they did it on the down low. No email to USSSC members nor a link on their schedule page. I received the ticket information and link from the American Outlaws because I had reached out to them about the match. I imagine and hope that the ticketing process for the Mexico match will be more normal and open.
Probably most fans are staying at Marriott Reforma, large group of people. Other than that, people are just staying at scattered spots around the city. http://www.theamericanoutlaws.com/events/usmnt-vs-mexico-away-32613
What hotels are close that are less then $200 a night, seems kinda steep. Im looking in the $100 range a night.
I staying with a few others at the Galeria Plaza Reforma, in the Zona Rosa. About $70 a night. Stayed there in 2009. Nice place.
