i, too, will be going from NYC. might make a shorter trip out of it due to work scheduling though.
Hi everyone - Never posted in this forum before, but I was planning this trip from the moment it looked like A&B might beat Haiti out, so now that I know I could make it happen in regards to work obligations, I want to start pursuing.
Have looked at flights and it looks in the $700 range from DC, where I live, through Miami. So that's not a huge problem. Probably just going to make a long weekend so will start checking out hotels now.
My main question is tickets. I read earlier in the thread that someone said they'd be "easy" to get. But when you're going to be dropping about $1200 for a long weekend on airfare and lodging, I'd like "easy" to be "certain." So, can anyone give me the dirty details about how the ticketing process would work? Timeline, from whom they get purchased, likelihood of getting them, etc.? I know I should book airfare and accommodations soon, but I've also got a EURO 2012 trip to plan, so don't want to jump into this until I know the ticketing situation. Thanks in advance.
Are you in AODC? We have about 15-20 people planning on going to this match as well, so you'll be in great company!
the fed will get an allocation as mandated by the WCQ/FIFA process. The fed will send out forms to fill out for those wanting tickets, those alerts usually always go out to the USSoccer Supporters Club for first dibs. If you want to be sure to get tix, then join the USSC for 45 bucks and you'll get access to tix for sure. I doubt we sell our full allotment so they'll open it up to the public, or return them back to A/B.
If none of this works for you, as with any sporting event, there will be people selling tickets outside the park if it's a sellout. If it's not a sellout then even easier for you.
I'd say it won't be until spring/summer until you get more details on tickets, so don't postpone your trip because of that. You will get tickets, guaranteed.
hey..just to let you guys know..my father is from antigua and is part of the ABFA admin....i live in ny...the game will be played at sir vivian richards stadium around 7pm local time most likely...antigua is one hour ahead of us during the month of oct....stadium holds about 15,000 ppl....if you cant get tickets in usa...they sell tickets at the gate or in advance in antigua...seating is usually first come first serve...lets put it this way, if antigua does well with the 4 earlier games that stadium will be sold out....ticket prices shouldnt be more than $20 USD....jolly beach and rex halycon would be the cheapest hotels...antigua is a very friendly tourist place...the fans are not wild like central america so there arent any security concerns...its an english speaking country....but its also a hardcore soccer nation...the drive from those hotels are about 25 min to the stadium...but i would advise to leave early via taxi cause the haiti game had about 8000 people and the traffic was backed up all the way into the capital and took a long time for people to enter the stadium...if anyone has any questions you can ask me on here =)
good stuff, thx. when can you (or your pops) let us know where the home game will be played at (in the US). gotta assume the ABFA is alerted to their destinations fairly far in advance, no?
kind of but rumors were redbull arena...probably sometime soon
USA is supposed to announce on wed where the June 8 game will be in usa against antigua...will update everyone
game on june 8 will be in tampa
I've booked all my travel for 10/12/12. Wife and I are flying Austin to San Juan PR on Continental, then catching a AA jump to Antigua. AA has a plane most nights about 9p to Antigua from San Juan returning at about 930 the next morning. This lets us avoid the whole fly thru NY with overnight layover thing.
We are staying at an All inclusive that is pretty pricey for four nights. The resort is called Cocobay.
Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is a Cricket Stadium. The interweb info I've found says standard capacity is 10,000 but is increased to 20,000 for World Cup games. Cricket World Cup games.
One report says access is poor and the facility has some history of poor field conditions with a major Cricket test match being canceled after it started because of poor field conditions.
Cocobay is outside the village of Bolans. It will be like a 30 minute taxi ride to the stadium. Im advising everyone to leave early. They do not have highways in antigua, the roads are one lane in each direction, there will definitely be traffic to the stadium. The stadium is not in the capital, its in the countryside outside the capital near a village called Parham.
If anyone is interested, airfares on American Airlines connecting through Miami have gone down pretty significantly in the pas few days. I booked my trip from the 10th to the 14th on www.aavacations.com for about $1000 at an all-inclusive place.
There's about 12 AODCers that will be there. Most of them will be there for about 10 days (I'm coming midweek and staying about 5 days). It's going down though!
Considering this trip but all the hotels are pretty expensive. Are there any cheaper alternatives?
Check Jolly harbor
i am only going for a night or two but found a decent number of options within the $100-$150 range...
Lots of great info here:
And here is where I am staying from the 10th to the 14th:
No visa for US citizens, I think, just your passport. And I've heard, for all that is sweet, clean, and pure, pronounce it "an-TEE-ga", not "an-TEE-gwa."
Don't Clapton and Oprah have houses there?
Yes please pronounce it "an-TEE-ga". If you guys have time a boat ride to see barbuda would be a great experience. You can visit the caves and the pink sand beaches. Also off the coast is Montseratt they have an active volcano that destroyed half the isalnd, they have tours to show you the destruction and the volcano.
If anyone will have problems getting them in usa the tickets to the match...I will do the people here a favor and secure some tickets for u guys in Antigua, my father would be able to do so since he lives there and has the right links
Would love it
Sounds good, thanks for the offer!
I guess I should go ahead and contact USSF and find out if I will be able to get tickets from them. If not -- I'm all over your offer.
