It's a 24-team tournament, so the 4 best 3rd-place teams will advance to the round of 16. The odds are still stacked against us, but it's not like we have to win the group or anything.

Trapp will have more chance to get multiple high level games staying as long as possible with U-20s. I like the difficult draw for that reason. Rise to the occasion young Master Trapp.

I posted in another thread asking if there would be any type of viewing party for the US matches but got no answers. Guess this is not that important to most, but we have one of own in it and this is the future crop of Nats.

By the way, the match on the 27th is with Ghana. This is definitely the "Group of Death" in this World Cup.

Shane O'Neil will be suspended which means Torre or Sorto will fill in for him. Gil is not 100% (reports are now saying he should play). However, Stanko who typically plays CB might be asked to play CM and forcing Torre and Sorto to both start.

Thanks for the info. I had heard conflicting reports on Gil so hopefully he's good to go.

Is Spain sending it's best players? They just finished the European U-21 championships. Are some of the same guys playing in both tournaments or were they all too old for the U-20 WC?

I wondered that myself with regards to some of the same players. Sure there are plenty of folks in here who can answer that.

Yes and no. It's a mix but they are sending players with La Liga experience so it's not like they are sending players out of no where.

This backline is going to get blown up Wil is going to have a lot of work to do today. If we win he will probably deserve MOTM but won't even be mentioned.

Shit we should be tied but Alonso Hernandez blew it.

    Later:

Good ball sent in from Trapp; didn't do much with it in the box.

We're playing well everywhere we should be. Pretty much everywhere but center back; all of our center backs at this age level are injured. If Trapp keeps pressure off them we'll be ok but if Spain gets in behind we're in trouble almost every time.

Awful pass from Yedlin after an excellent anticipation steal.

Spain is going to score again, our defense is just too vulnerable to their attack.

But we'going to finish one of our chances too. We've been pressing really well.
