Destro will be 22 years old in 9 days. He isn't a kid ! what difference would it make if he was 3 years older? he has featured for the azzurri pretty much at all levels apart from the under-20's. Other nations get their youngsters into the national teams at ages of around 20 (look at Germany) but throughout the years in Italy it seems coaches only select a young player once in a blue moon. Getting the likes of Destro into the starting 11 is a step in the right direction not only for Roma but for Italy. As a matter of fact Destro is more mature person than Osvaldo and this was exemplified when Destro was struggling for his first goal, he didnt let the pressure get to him although he was being criticized, Destro just kept working hard.
I think that Osvaldo stay at Roma.Juve have Llorente (no need for Osvaldo) and fioretina not have that 15 million. Jovetic and Rossi are enough for fiores attack.I think there are not many teams in the world who want to buy Osvaldo for 15 mil.Maybe some Russian or Turkey team but i am very sceptical Osvaldo wants to play there.
I just read an articel that Sabatini wants to replace Osvaldo with Aubameyang. Aubameyang is 23 Saint Ettiens striker!
He's a kid. What experience does he have? playing for Siena is now a marker for a leader striker at Roma? A total risk
Agree, Destro performances were pretty poor in Roma shirt. He missed more chances than Osvaldo.El Shawaawy is lot better youngster. Who quarantees that Destro become Italys top striker? Its just bubble at the moment. I havent seen something magical orextra class from Desto.
We can knit pick all we want but Osvaldo is a player who had experienced football in many different leagues and yeah delivered in Spain. He has shown his quality but his attitude has failed him. If he goes then so be it, I just think its ludicrous to think that any club wanting to become a force would be happy with 2 youngsters as the main strikers. A feeder club for developing talent? Is this what we want Roma to become. I see two years wasted, Im not to confident in the short term and I dont think the management deserve a shot at picking the most important manger in the medium to long term future of the club. Get this wrong a third time and every talent will want out. Contract or know contract they wont waste their time here, players aren't tied to the club like Totti
I find it ludicrous that you feel Destro can't play because of his age. If every manager had your logic, many of todays young stars( e.g. el sharaawy, Varane, MARCOS!) would be on the bench or loaned out. Saying he doesnt have experience is absolute garbage in my book. This is his 3rd consecutive season in serie A ! so tell me, what great experience does Osvaldo have??
I think you exaggerate because you like the player, he did one year in Argentina before doing a spell at a variety of Italian minnows. Durring that period never exploding. His big break was one season in Spain, where he finally came of age. Perhaps it was the turning point in a coming career. Perhaps not, looking at his history one also discovers he has never stayed at a club for more than two seasons. Maybe charactorial problems are at the root. Also for what it's worth I think Destro goal scoring media this season is more or less on par with Osvaldo, between Coppa and Serie A he has 7 goals in 11 appearances. That's like 1.57 average while Osvaldo has 20 appearances with 12 goals which would make him 1.66
It's really good points you and DDR make about Destro needing to play and to play a lot. I'm optimistic about seeing a lot of the Totti - Lamela - Destro attack. I guess I'm just stuck on the idea that clubs that can actually compete for the CL place would be able to put out a strong attack against Juve, Milan etc if those matches come up while Totti and Destro are nursing injuries. I tend to not look at the strength of just those starting three but who plays when they don't on weekends all our competitors are picking up 3 points. Maybe we have worse injury luck than average but I can hardly think of any player that's been available for more than 75% of our matches in a while and think it fallacy to not have a more solid contingency for rotation. That's been my massive point of critique for Sabatini and the defense the past 2 seasons. I don't think it's prudent to count on more than 30 or so matches from Totti and Destro each when we'll probably end playing 50+ matches with Europa and Coppa. This is not even to mention having attackers available to sub in at 70 minutes to change the dynamics of a match. I've never thought of this conversation as Destro vs Osvaldo but simply that it's "Europa Cup" mentality to assume we can't have both rotating. Or even the option of a 3-4-1-2 with Totti and both playing against certain teams that pack back on defense when Lamela is out where they both play 30 matches. That's what really good teams have and we only have right now when every single player is healthy and available. Now, if selling Osvaldo means that we still bring in another high quality piece in the attack while addressing much more pressing needs at CB and MF I'd be a bit more optimistic. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that we'll have trouble getting a piece at least as good as, say, Palacio (not him of course but I mention him because we tried) or another promising young player with similar ability to play 2nd striker who's at least as ready as Destro and not an U-20 prospect like Lopez. Of course, a lot of this may depend more on who's the manager and where the hell Pjanic actually sticks on the pitch if we do continue with a manager running a 3 man defense. If the attack continues to be a trident like now, we're a bit short in the attack if Pjanic continues to be groomed in a deeper lying playmaker position.
Destro was direct replacement for Borini, so we can´t say that getting Destro was money off the transfer budget. If we would have sold Borini and invested that money strengthening defense, our attack wouldn´t have any rotation. Lopez and Tallo would have been inevitable and in next mercato we would be searching for not one but 2 forwards. It is hard to be in Sabatini´s shoes, when your mission is to develop youngsters in such a capricious environment. We may think it is courtesy of Zeman we have Marcos, Lamela, Pjanic and Florenzi blooming, but it was also Sabatini who entrusted his credibility in these kids hands. He sent half of the deadwood away in order to give room for our inexperienced prospects, something Prade would have never done. I like Fiorentina´s current team, but I will rather progress with these kids rather than have a team who can make it only so far. I would understand the critique if we would waste our time developing bums, but we have kids that mammoth teams are ready to kill for. Something we should be proud and thankful for.
I am not against young stars, you have taken what I am saying to another level. 3rd year in Serie A, at Siena were a whole different level is expected to Roma is again enough to lead Roma? That is NEVER enough experience to be confident to lead Roma . I want a successful Roma. Top teams which is want we want to be, do not solely rely on young players, of course you get an odd champion but that is not Destro..............YET
You speak a lot of sense with this, and you mention a key point about how a lot of things depend on who the manager will be for next season.
If we do sell Osvaldo that would be the type replacement that I'd not necessarily consider a step backwards. I don't know a lot about him but the handful of times I've seen him for St Etienne he's looked very good and his recent scoring record for Ligue 1 is pretty impressive. What I do imagine is that it'll take €15 million or so to get him. I think I recall reading where they turned down an offer of around that from Newcastle this winter.
I wouldn't go as far as saying to Destro "Lead Roma", we're not asking him to take over Totti's mantle next season just asking him to get on the end of a few crosses and score a few goals. You act like Osvaldo is irreplacable, if sabatini tried really really hard he could use left over money at the end of the summer and get a good striker at a bargain price to be an alternative to Destro. on a lighter note this whole talk of experience reminds me of this:
You've lost me now. My whole argument has had nothing to do with this, which if you had read my earlier posts would have picked up on. It is to do with the notion that Destro and Lopez can do the job. If Osvaldo is sold he needs to be replaced, simple enough? You act like Destro is some sort of footballing GOD with so much experience playing for Italys youth teams and the might of SIENA. Two years messing about, who wants another year potentially wasted when the strikers we have left dont fire? Then we all turn round and cry why didnt we replace him..You wouldn't go as far as say lead Roma? If Destro is left that he will become the LEAD striker, the man who is expected to deliver and from what I have seen he is not ready to do so, the longer a player is out injured the better he becomes under some people. I'm done with now, we clearly have different views on what we expect from Roma
PEA is a good player but he's more of a Niang/El Shaarawy type not a true #9. I'm not sure playing him and Destro would work.

Whatever man we're going around in circles anyway, you always think you're right no matter what the topic is on. Talking to a brick wall.
I definitely wouldn't call us a feeder club. Otherwise we wouldn't be offering 3 million a year to a teenager. I expect Lamela and Pjanic to get big wage hikes as well. We really need to find out who our next manager is. Perhaps he will require two CFs so both could potentially start. But I agree with DDR that the club already made the investment on Destro, so we might as well put our stock into him.
Personally i like Ruben Botta too for Left Flank. http://www.forzaroma.info/2013/03/11/calciomercato-la-roma-ci-prova-per-botta/201953 And there are lots talents who we are linked: Botta,Eriksen,Tavarez;Filip Jankovic. What about Leandro Damiao to replace Osvaldo. Physically strong forward. Please make another thread for that Destro-Osvaldo shit. Absolute True is: At the moment Osvaldo is better forward than Destro, maybe in the future this aspect change.
Yeah we're going to replace the out of form Osvaldo with the super-myth Damaio. I watch Brazilian football, the guy is way more inconsistent than Osvaldo. His reputation has been built on scoring against weak competition in the state championships and the Olympics, a defense option tournament. He had a run last season were he scored in 4 straight matches which the defending was abysmal, then he finished the year not being able to score at all. Forlan the 2nd half was much better than him.
aubameyang is a beast!!! ive seen him play this season and hes got everything, pace, dribbling, and finishing, and saing ettiens usually plays him on the wing
Yeah, Milan must be kicking themselves they gave him away. Been one of the best forwards in France for two seasons, think he is much better as a wing forward, they give him so much space to express himself
