We lost the Italy game because we were sluggish and overconfident, and because Italy played an excellent tactical game to nullify Germany's threats. There wasn't a single Germany player on the pitch who was playing at the top of their game, Boateng included.

However he does need to work on his positioning, the development of which I think has been stunted by not playing consistently at CB and being pushed out wide as a utility man. He has great physical qualities for a CB, speed, size, and ball control, now it's about honing his reading of the game. I think given a season or two more and we will see strides from him in this department.

It's interesting the standard to which these CBs are held as a pair of 22 year olds. Hummels and Subotic also have occasional games where they show their greenness, as center back is certainly a position that requires years of experience to reach maximum potential. I imagine that's why the most highly rated CBs are 30+

Italy game was lost not because Italy played tactically great, they played exactly what they played in the all the games before. However Loew thought for a matter of fact that he needed to adapt to their tactics and sacrificed the German winger game (and the italian fbs are not great) and shifted the game into the center of the pitch while leaving the right flank exposed since only Boateng could cover the whole flank effectively due to the instructions to Kroos by Loew to stay alongside Ozil. Funny thing is that even with the shift into the center Italy managed to stay basically one man more in almost all situations there. In other words Loew plan went boomerang

I hope so....40MIL is too much for Javi, and Bender sin NOT worth 25MIL. There is 'adequate' coverage in every position....well once Alaba comes back up.

Should we start the pool now? Put me down for Hertha BSC ;). Pure gold, though, would be 1860.

To the FOs credit, they have been active this summer. Relative to all the rhetoric from Uli, "players worthy of Barca" "Bombe sturmer" "we have the money"....It's been underwhelming as far as established world class talent.

A defender not playing for his NT
A guy who had a few good goals in the EM
A kid who's done well in Basel, and beat a CR7less ManU.

I am content with the 1st and 3d. I'm not sold on the 2nd one. As far as youth goes, It's a shame that BayernII is so fr down in the leagues, the gap is so great that I don't know that the team benefits as well as we would like.

SportBild: None of the new players have shown enough to win a spot in the starting lineup so far. Jupp's current XI:

    Neuer
    Boateng, van Buyten, Badstuber, Lahm
    Kroos, Schweinsteiger
    Robben, Müller, Ribery
    Gomez

Yet more proof that Boateng just isn't good enough to play CB consistently. It really is too bad that Alaba is injured.

Van Buyten again? Any troubleshooting step to get rid of this virus?

Kroos Schweinsteiger is not realistic vs Top opposition so Gustavo has to come in somewhere
