He was also one of the reasons LvG lost his job. We should have made bids for Khedira and Oezil. LvG forced a powerhouse like Bommel to leave so Kroos can take his place. What a failure that turned out to be.
I am not sure this statement is entirely accurate. I am not defending LVG as he lost the script with virtually the same lot of players Jupp has now, with obvious exceptions. I don't think Kroos was a 'replacement' for Von Bommel so much as LVG couldn't decide if Tymo and Gustavo were any of the following: (a) DM, (b) CB, (c) LB/RB. I think this lead more to Kroos playing a deeper role than many of us expected. Hence the clear comparison with Von Bommel. I agree he was no Von Bommel, but that most of those familiar with him knew to begin with. The Schweini-Kroos pairing in midfield was too soft, and with out inconsistency at CB, it made it all the more glaring. My opinion is Kroos should be Schweini's back up. He is a solid distributor that can get in the area when needed to help the attack and strike from range when necessary. He is Piggy's clone in many ways. Unfortunately, if and when Ribery and Robben are healthy, and in the present form Mueller is in, Kroos stands only the chances Jupp gives him to start matches. Thankfully, Jupp rotation policy is working to perfection so far this season. The kid has a future. Let him get there.
Between Alaba, Can, and Kroos I think we have a berth of talented midfielders coming through the ranks. Remains to be seen whether Schweini can shoulder the defensive responsibility or if he needs a MvB/Gustavo/Khedira type next to him.
Not my style to bash players and this is no bash, but someone please tell what has Alaba shown so far that makes him "one for the future"? I don't see anything special about him, he reminds me of Altintop in his last few months here, he goes the entire game without making a meaningful contribution. Uninspiring, lacks creativity, and that level of risk taking that young players seem to have, these are my current views of him from what I've seen. He played the wing the last time out however I can't remember him once trying to beat his marker (maybe he did but i must have missed it). I'm I missing something here because I just don't see it. Right now I see him as a BL backup or second choice backup at most? (for Bayern) (Fanboys, this post is not intended to bash..so please don't even bother to respond if you view it as that. Thank You.)
There are two things that I like about Alaba. 1. His overall game intelligence. He's all over the field in a good way. He has played a game that suggests he will become a very good reader of the game. He can already play at the Bundesliga level and doesn't really look out of sorts. He has adapted well to three very different styles for Hoffenheim last season, with Bayern so far and with his national team. 2. His attitude. He has the enthusiasm and work ethic that also suggests he will become a very good professional. He hasn't shown a particular nasty side and generally seems humble and grounded. His work ethic reminds me of Mueller's - the appetite to learn from those around him. That is very rare to see nowadays, especially from someone at such a big club with such expectations.
Reus has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave in 2013. His favorite club growing up was Arsenal because of their style of play. http://www.derwesten.de/sport/fussb...mit-Gladbach-weiter-verbessern-id5043282.html
Alaba is a CM not a winger, but he may adjust to be a solid back-up there in the future. That's why it's hard to judge him there, hope he plays more in CM in some games this season and we can see what he's made of. He was 18 years old and looked like a Bundesliga regular last season with Hoff, and looked pretty good in some games as well.
We always hear how Arsenal is everyone's "favorite club" growing up because of how they play, but if they continue doing how they are now, NOBODY will want to go there, no matter how "attractive" they might play.
Statements about favourite clubs of players are seldom really serious. Usually it´s the player´s agent behind such statements. Besides 99% of all professional football players go to the club, which pays them the most money.
guys, we're talking about 2013, lets think to the present...... anyway Reus is really good, shame he's a gladbacher......
^^So was Marin.....jus sayin' Look how he's turned out. I'm glad we didn't get him when he was the flavor of the month.
I think Reus has officially passed the "flavour of the month" stage, and he is a legit excellent player now.
As I understand it Reus contract allows him to leave Gladbach in 2012 for a fee of 18m € which is being reduced to 15m € in 2013.
I'm really not interested in this kid....again...look at how Marin turned out, that's just ONE example! Baumjohan, Jansen....etc
Generalization much? Why should the fact that they have all been from M'gladbach matter? Every player is different.
Marin? The guy who has the physique and mentality of a 10 year old? Reus has been doing phenomenally for over 2 years now and almost single handedly saved a team from relegation. If that's not enough for you then what is? He's done a heck of a lot more than most players we have brought in in the past.
Reus has a good shot, he is very fast & agile, has good vision and has an awesome quickness of mind which shows in his sublime combination play. Qualities that would make him a valuable player for Bayern München. The only thing that really troubles me about Reus is his disposition to injuries. In my opinion there is no doubt that we need a quality player for the winger positions due to Ribérys and Robbens many injuries but can Reus be that player when he is often injured himself? Jogi Löw nominated him 4! times for the national team and Reus had to call it off every single time. So do we really want to pay 18m € for yet another player that will be injured a lot?
Weird thing is he has only gotten those minor injuries when called up the NT, he has played almost every game for Gladbach in the last 2 years. Fitness is not really a concern to be honest.
