Two Guest/Trial players open camp today: 1) Euan Holden is working out with the team (guest player). 2) Also, Sito Seoane from San Jac and Austin Aztex fame. (trialist) 3) Interestingly enough, Chabala is in camp and not listed as a trialist. ???
Since we don't have any depth for our outside backs and he's a known quantity I wouldn't be surprised if he's signed.
Also, while Holden is only a guest player - he is out of contract as of last week. I have never really seen him play but he just mutually ended his contract for a fourth division team in England so not sure what his play is for the future.
He is a right back, correct? With the previously mentioned lack of depth on the outside, a Holden or Chabala could very easily latch on here at minimum salaries and provide cover in case of an injury.
I think Euan has trained with the Dynamo before, maybe back when Stu was here. I've never really had a positive impression of him as a player. He seems to be a good guy, but as a player he's never stayed long with any team and never made much of a name for himself. Does anybody else have a different opinion? I would love to be excited that he was here and maybe we could encourage him to stay. But I have a feeling he's just here hanging at his mom's house while he figures what he wants to do next. And I don't think it will be with MLS.
It was the first practice. Hard to draw many impressions. Taylor and Creavalle were rehabbing from their off-season surgeries still. Hall and Davis weren't there. Salazar, Sherrod, the crew of trailists, and Cochran did not look lost. Horst is a big dude. Cummings impressed me in that he was 100% healthy and looked like he was really getting after it.
So it sort of looks like Calen won't be back, doesn't it? In Dom's words to the press he included Calen in those "we've left behind" but miss. I wonder if he can and will play for another team. He is good behind the mic and I would like to see him doing Dynamo broadcasting if he is through playing.
This is about all the information I could expect to get, so thanks. Cummings being healthy and fit could really make a big difference. Glad to hear that we added some size to our back line and the newcomers weren't too overwhelmed.
Wouldn't surprise me if he is taller. Still just a kid and won't stop growing for a few years yet. Hopefully the half year he had will prepare him for this season and will put a good show on for the 'Hounds.
It's not like Houston is loaded with proven options at forward. IMHO, he can make the team and be a contributor this year. He is big enough already size-wise. However, it's going to be more a strength issue that he may have to adjust to playing against grown men instead of Academy competition. But unlike players on trial in Europe, the ball is in his court to do something with the chance.
If he really doesnt have any offers (or any decent ones), you would think his most comfortable place would be with the Dynamo even if it was on the cheap. Unless they Dynamo are so low on him post injury that they havent even given him any offer.
My guess would be if he isn't in Dynamo camp; he is retiring. But I have no inside knowledge so it is just my best guess.
well if you are going to end an injury plagued career-netting the go ahead goal in MLS Cup just before blowing your knee out again, is how I would want to go out.
