That's because you got it slightly wrong in the OP. That "after" should be an "in" instead. Basically week 17 was a qualifying round and the overall score meant nothing this year. It used to be the overall score that decided if you were in or not but apparently that changed. Just split the 177 by the number of weeks he had been in it (4 by my count). It comes out at just over 44 points per round (or a little less than the 53 he got).
