From the bbc Collin Samuel will become the first World Cup star to take part in the Scottish Junior Cup when the 32-year-old Trinidad & Tobago striker plays for Sauchie against Tranent on Saturday. Full story: Daily Express
With DeRo about to hit the wrong side of his 30s (he's 35) and his skills seemingly diminishing, why would TFC bring him back? TFC screwed up royally when he WAS with them.
He was part of our best team ever* - and we still need #10 depth - though I'm fuzzy on the contract implications for the re-entry draft - if we can get him on a lesser contract we can still use him - especially to mentor a kid like Osario. But mostly because (all?) the MLSE people he pissed off with his show-me-the-money schitck are gone - and I love's me some good redemption-for-local-boy story possibilities. *5th in the east in 2009
Now THIS, I can agree with, because the younger players (and maybe even some of the vets) could learn from his experiences of playing in MLS for so long. He's practically done everything possible in it. The thing I'm more worried about is if Nelsen might lean on him to be the playmaker he was before, which would be unfair not only to him, but for the other players.
There are a few questions that only DeRo can answer: 1. Is he willing to come back, even if there's been a big change in management? 2. Is he willing to take on a depth and mentoring role rather than being a starter? 3. Is he willing to come for a salary that is compatible for a depth position? If any one of those three is a no, then he won't be back. I wouldn't be surprised to see him with IdM or VWFC if they need to fill their Canadian quota. He's old but he's also a "body is a temple" kind of guy and is probably in better shape than a lot of guys in their 20s.
