Whoa, Shakhtar nearly ruining everyone's hopes by scoring. Shot flashes just wide of goal. They're having the better of the second half so far.
Gol Juve! Low cross from right knocked in by Giovinco. But the guy who crossed in was offside when he received the pass. So Chelsea fans have something to moan about. EDIT: Goal officially credited as a Shakhtar own goal. Result would put Juve top of group, Shakhtar fall to second.
Shakhtar desperate to equalize, diving twice in the box attempting to gain a penalty. Ref not buying any of it. Did I say "buying"? Wrong choice of words.
Both Billionaire owned clubs in England being knocked off. Although this should have happened to last year's Chelsea.
Congratulations to Chelsea. First defending CL champion not to get past the group phase. Celtic through.
They might not even make it past the SF game against (probably) Monterrey. But I will hate them that much more if they make the final and lose to Corinthians.
I don't see how Portsmouth-Southampton is bigger than City-United, Arsenal-Tottenham, or Liverpool-Everton. Far from it, their matches won't get the 600 million views that these other games do usually when they meet up in a Premier League match. Well, then I just guess we have different opinions of what exact revenge is. Doesn't matter now that they're out anyways. But Terry might not be playing so much even if he was fit and there, because he has two good, battle tested centerbacks already there to compete with whereas Barca don't at the moment. I don't doubt Galatasaray's qualities because they made it into the Round of 16 after all, but it's fair to assume that they're the best option for us to face in the next round from the 5 possible sides. But I'm not too sure that I agree that GS could get a good result if the game is open minded. It didn't work out for Real Madrid, Manchester United, or other great sides that tried it out before.
It's not my opinion, I'm just going by the dictionary definition of "revenge". But yeah, Chelsea would probably play with 5 defenders if they had to play Barca. Anyway, as you say, not going to happen. Maybe in the SuperCup in August.
Still an opinion in this case, you can consider both cases right but I'd say not so if we knocked them out in the next round. They're not going to win the Europa League, they'll probably go out in the Round of 16 or something. Unless it's their only hope left of winning silverware when February comes around.
How quickly fortunes change. Champions one year, flame-out the next. Apparently "destiny runs" are one-year wonders.
With the Champions League group stage complete, we now know the eight clubs that will parachute into the Round of 32 of the Europa League. For the Round of 32 draw, the seeded clubs are the EL group winners and the four CL third place clubs with the best records. They will host the second legs. Same parameters apply as during the CL draw: Clubs from same group cannot play against each other nor can clubs from the same country/league. It is possible for two CL clubs to play each other in the Round of 32. Seeded clubs, will host second leg Unseeded clubs, will host first leg Confirmed advancement to Round of 32 Still in the hunt to advance Group A: Anzhi Makhachkala, Liverpool, Young Boys Bern Group B: Atlético Madrid, Viktoria Plzen Group C: Fenerbahçe, Borussia Mönchengladbach Group D: Bordeaux, Newcastle United Group E: Steaua Buchareşt, VfB Stuttgart, FC København Group F: Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Napoli Group G: KRC Genk, FC Basel, Videoton Group H: Rubin Kazan, Inter Milan Group I: Olympique Lyon, Sparta Prague Group J: Lazio, Tottenham Hotspur, Panathinaikos Group K: Metalist Kharkiv, Bayer Leverkusen Group L: Hannover 96, Levante CL Group A: Dynamo Kyiv CL Group B: Olympiacos CL Group C: Zenit CL Group D: Ajax CL Group E: Chelsea CL Group F: BATE Borisov CL Group G: Benfica CL Group H: CFR Cluj
Don't wanna involve in arguments of what exactly can pass as "revenge", but I sure am ok with Chelsea out. Would've nice to REVENGE them in R16 but whatever if they can't even make it that far. Reigning EPL champs, reigning CL champs -> bye bye CL.
For me it is always interesting to see the odds (to win the CL outright) before and after the two draws. Right now the best lines are: Barca 45:17 Real 3.51) Bayern 7 Borussia 9 ManU 12 Juve 14 PSG 25 Shaktar 28 Arsenal 33 Schalke; Porto & Malaga each 50 Milan & Valencia each 66 Celtic 150 Galatasaray 250 How that changes after the first draw will be interesting http://www.oddschecker.com/football/champions-league/champions-league/winner
Absolutely, but your own (Bayern M) odds would also get longer. Basically 6 of the top 7 teams finished top of their group. Real cannot face 3 of those group toppers (Dortmund, Barca and Malaga) so you, Juve, ManU, PSG, or Schalke will face them. If they face Schalke odds won't change much, but drawing you, Juve or ManU would all lower both their and that team's odds.
Honestly I don't want to face them right away.. Even though we are Real Madrid bane of existence.. It's always still a 50/50 series betwen us, that's too high of a risk that early in the stages.. We like you guys prefer, galatasaray or Celtic (u can't face)... Also with arsenal and Milan's form this year, they should be very manageable.. Porto and shakhtar would be on the 3rd tier list Lastly Madrid..
