A couple of years ago, the group I work in was assigned a new manager from Canada. She actually split time between Calgary and Houston, but I digress. Anyway, she was a big hockey fan and was not at all amused when I referred to it as ice soccer. True story.
I have horrible news. I hate to be the person to make it official and announce this, but I guess somebody has to do it. We will lose the MLS Cup Final to L.A. on December 1st. As a friend of mine was taking a picture of somebody standing next to the MLS Cup, that stranger touched the Cup. I was there to witness it. That's horrible ********ing juju. We're screwed. I'm sorry.
Well, I think the trophy goes on tour in the LA area after it leaves Houston. All sorts of bad mojo will happen there, helping erase anything unfortunate that happened here.
Well, you see, that's one of the problems with trying to apply hockey dogma to soccer. This whole trophy touching doctrine has nothing to do with soccer. If anything, it may actually displease the soccer gods when we try to apply the hockey gods' doctrines to soccer. It's like taking rituals from the temples of Isis and trying them with Sol Invictus. The gods don't like that sort of thing. Let's just leave hockey dogma aside. We have plenty of our own soccer doctrinal matters to worry about, like pre-game burritos and depressing posts.
I'm fixing to double check if my Corey Ashe hat tricks predictions have anything to do with it. But I also started my playoff beard before the Olympia game and we been doing pretty good ever since. (Colorado and SKC didn't really count as a loss)
I've been biting my tounge throughout this superstition post until you brought up Rico's name. Now I must go on record as saying that we will need Rico to remain out for injury during the final or else we are sure not to win. Remember 06 & 07. He needs to be on the team roster but unavailable to play.
Nah. Your misreading the fates and Gods. Rico being out is intrinsically linked to DeRo being in. Without DeRo Rico is good to go.
me too-but it depends on who ask, according to some at MLSnet, the play doesn't count as the playoffs. To me it does. I think we are fine with growing once we qualified for the post season.
http://worldfootballcolumns.com/2010/10/26/an-entirely-different-beast-the-2010-mls-playoff preview/ nice read about touch or not to touch and soccer gods vs. hockey gods.
So .... is anyone handling some sacrifices to the soccer gods? I think we may need a few. Let me explain. At Tuesday nights Dynamo Awards Gala some local bigwig from Anheiser Busch got to introduce the Golden Boot winner Will Bruin. When doing so the sublimely oblivious (or just downright sabotaging) son-of-a-bitch remarked that he had already had ordered from his company a special edition Budweiser thingy for Bruin with three stars on it and saying Houston Dynamo 2012 MLS Cup Champions. Do you get some special dispensation from the soccer gods if the offense is by some clueless blowhard purveyor of bad beer?
