That's the reason we need a BigSoccer meet-up! MetroAg and RedInTheMorning talking hockey while Celt, Ze German, Rey, and Don talk tactics, and NewTex chimes in with history would be legendary. Of course, all of this would happen while Westie, JC, and I get thrown out for being racists, homophobic, and defending Nigel's usage of the word gay. I say we get together Saturday after Thanksgiving IF we make it to the MLS Cup or December 1st if we do not.
BTW-they still do hand out the Prince of Wales trophy but the captain accepts it and it is generally considered taboo to skate around with it if you are not the captain.
IIRC the captain accepts it, lifts it to display it like SuperMario is doing in that photo, does a quick 360 turn to show it to everybody, then hands it back (or hauls it with him, I don't recall) and ushers his team off the ice to concentrate on bigger things ....
It varies too. I'm a Penguins fan, so forgive me for going back to that well too often, but in 2008, Sidney Crosby didn't touch the PoW trophy. This was further complicated by the fact that Nick Lidstrom, the Detroit Red Wings captain, didn't lift the Campbell Bowl (Western trophy). The Red Wings eventually won the Stanley Cup. In 2009, the Pens and Wings again won their respective conferences. Crosby posed with the trophy (didn't even celebrate, really), carried it across the ice, and the team skated off. Not sure what Lidstrom did, but the Pens won the Stanley Cup in the re-match. As much as I think lifting versus not lifting versus celebrating has no real affect, I would like to take the time to do an in-depth break-down for MLS eventually. Wonder how hard it would be to track down those earlier finals though, and what of the Central Division?
Pens eh? I can't remember if I asked you before-you a Riverhounds fan? If so are going back for their stadium opener?
Glad I wasn't the only one. Thought this was the Dynamo Girl 2012 thread....now I know how Knave feels.
I would love to, but I don't think I can swing it. Spent my freshman year there, but never made it to a match. I'm excited to see Highmark Stadium happen though. That view in Station Square will be gorgeous, and it looks like their ownership did it up right; the appointments are spectacular (especially for a USL club). Ponce says your a hockey guy, at the risk of totally derailing this thread (I promise, I'll do that breakdown next week haha), who's your team?
I grew up a Rangers guy but lost interest after the lockout and being in Texas with the ever fluctuating TV contracts, it was hard to catch them. Then I moved to PA in 2010 and was up there by myself for a year so the Pens became my team/surrogate family. So I would say I am a Pens guy now, but will never root against the Rangers.
LA didn't celebrate. Now we're gonna settle the jinx. Dynamo celebrated v. LA non-celebration. December 1, 2012, we get to end a jinx and get revenge!
oh sh$%-Anyone see the LA match. I think they read this thread. They looked like the mean business. Sending a statement?
Or maybe they just wanted to get in out of the rain because old guys' joints tend to flair up in cold and damp weather.
Yeah -- at the moment it is so easy to get caught up with the celebrating. I don't believe in any jinx. I believe last night just showed that LAG are more focused than our players are right now. However, I fully expect the Dynamo to be back about their business on Monday.
Naaa the real reason the Gals didn't celebrate is because they knew they would be facing the Dynamo. The Dynamo celebrated because they knew they no longer had to play an eastern conference team! Go Dynamo!
I agree with this. BTW-we are 2-0 when I go to Cups and 0-1 when I don't. I can't go this year (got company coming in for RUSH the day after the Cup). So I am publicly stating that I am sacrificing a chicken in the backyard to JoBu and dousing the house in incense. I am wearing my 06 Dynamo jersey everyday (unless I have my suit on) for everyday until the Final.
The soccer gods may smile upon us, if you sacrifice that chicken. I'll go looking for raccoons with Levy2k6.
Should we have a parade and let Ricardo Clark or Moffat drop the Eastern Conf Cup off the bus and drive over it!? Will that please the soccer gods?
