Isn't Villa playing in the 2nd division? Scoring in college is one thing, I don't think he's done much as a professional.

Yeah Villa is playing for Antigua. If he's a starter y le pone huevos he definitely could be a candidate for a backup spot. The guy has talent, but it's all about gana and execution in the NT.

Yeah he's 25. I don't like this guy, pero quien sabe, no lo he visto jugar ultimamente.

How quickly you guys forget, Villa was the one that scored on Mexico with the U20 when Kenton was our coach. After that he went to study here in the USA for Harthford, where he joined their soccer team and became their goal scorer and was named player of the month for all Universities. After he finished his studies he cameback to Guate and trained with Rojos and played a few games but then decided to joined Antigua since he didnt play much for Rojos, When Antigua faced Rojos, Villa socred against his old team. In my opinion, Villa is the forward that Guate has been waiting for, he just need to be given the chance so he can proove what he can do with the ball. He's about 6'2, he's fast, he's good at scoring he's kind of a Mario Gomez from Germany.

Guess since he came to Boston to get his masters in business, he came to play here for Harthford where he was captain of the Hawks team, but for like the main sele of Guate no, or at least not yet
Many people dont like him in Guate cause they say he's the son of the richest guy over there, you know the "Rojos" owner. But to me, he has made merits enough to be in the Sele. The kid has talent, and he can score.

How can you say he has the merits to be on the sele? How many goals has he scored in the 1st division in Guate, if any? He was good in college but failed to get drafted in the MLS. If he's so good why isn't he playing in the 1st division?

It comes down to pure numbers guys. In 2008 Villa looked like he was going to be a great prospect. Is it still possible for him? Yes, the kid's relatively young at 25 and is playing regularly, even if it is a 2nd division team. BUT, he hasn't progressed as much as other players in his age-group (I'm looking at you Pappa) and we can't make too much out of it.

Numbers-wise, you don't have to look past Mexico or the United States. How many players who perform spectacularly at the u17, u20 and u23 stage go on to perform just as well later on in their career? You're lucky if out of a youth team you end up with 2 or 3 players who consistently log minutes on the NT. As a footballing nation we still lag far behind when it comes to player development, so while I certainly appreciate what Villa has done before, we can't begin to herald this kid as the future of our sele when he has done veeerryy little since the preolimpico. He performed well here in the NCAA for Hartford in the America East, but even then the America East is a weak soccer conference. It's all about perspective, and we just can't put too much weight onto a goal he had almost 4 years ago against an u23 Mexican side. Was it against a lot of players who have since moved on to fare pretty well? Yes. But unfortunately Villa hasn't been one of those instances

[rant]^ Nailed it in the head. That's where I was heading with my half rhetoric. At 25 years old there should be no doubt of where a footballer's career is and where it's going, you're pretty much defined by then. So not to be harsh on just one guy, but not much to be expected from him. Too late for development. But hey, that's our tradition, right? Older worn out guys take precedence over new refreshing talent, to go against the grain of the rest of world football . -__- [/rant]

I do agree with you guys on that, that Guatemala has made the mistake to keep on using the same old players and well i also blame the league's owners for not pushing for using more younger players to the league. As for Villa's defense, i dont know if you guys were aware of this but he was in the MLS draft but did not attend, he was highly recommended from his coach at Hartford, now until this day i have no idea why he didnt attend. The only thing i can think of is that he was more interested in finishing his career. Now it hasnt been just one goal that i think is a fluke, now i think we all can agree that some Universities football teams are either the same or more competitive than the teams in our league in Guatemala, and thats a fact. As for Villa scoring just that goal in the U20, he recently scored two goals against his old team los "rojos". I dont think thats a fluke either. Only time will tell, and if he does well on Friday well lets give him more time.

Well i guess is destiny, Capt. Villa will play instead of Rodriguez

The only ones not there from Kenton's squad are Castrillo, Contreras and Pappa. Other than that it's that same group.

Dont forget capt. Villa and Avila and Jerez.
Junio all these new players that ALmeida called was to see new players, let's not forget our next round is going to be tough, so we need to get the best players we have in Guate, since he dont want to call no more players abroad, cause what will happen if Ruiz gets hurt or Pappa, we need players that can play those positions and played them well.

You misunderstood me Guti, I was just curious to why we keep calling men "Patojos" or "Kids", when they are actual men. Not important though :p.
