The level of ball we're playing right now versus the level of sucktitude that Dallas and LA are at....I honestly think there's a solid chance that we can get as high as 2nd for playoff seedings. That would be really nice because as much as Dallas sucks right now, they still have talent and I'd feel much better against LA in the first round than Dallas.

    What are you guys thinking?

We play LA next week, then LA has to play KC twice, Dallas twice and then San Jose. Dallas plays KC, a surging and playoff-desperate Columbus, RSL, San Jose, DC and and us, in addition to the LA games.

We, on the other hand, play DC and the expansion teams, so the schedule is obviously tilted in our favor. LA and Dallas could either split points or take the majority, which puts us in good position to pass at least one of the two. Additionally, with a game against LA and Dallas, we really are in control of our own destiny. I'd imagine us, if we keep current form, passing at least one if not both.

I hope you can catch at least LA, you deserve it (glad we could help out!). It seems (albeit to an outsider) that Clavijo has got things together and got the players he wants--and you have some quality guys--and it's working. I hope you make the conference final against San Jose, at least.

I would love to see the Rapids and Joe Cannon pass LA right on by! Good Luck!

I think we can. We're four points back with a game in hand. We have four games in a row against the expansion clubs. Team spirit has got to be higher on the Rapids compared to LA. I think we will pass LA to meet Dallas in the playoffs.

Dallas will be getting back to full strength once EJ is healthy. They'll start winning some games. However, I'd rather see Dallas in the first round of the playoffs then SJ.

I think we can catch LA. If we win our 2 games in hand we'll pass them, then we just have to play even with them over the other 6 games. We can do that. Dallas will be harder, since we have no games in hand over them and we're 5 points back. If we win our head to head matchup we have a decent chance, but if we draw or lose I think Dallas can stay in front.

My only regret is that we would have to lose to RSL for LA to get knocked out of the playoffs. Q

LA is definitely within reach. I will be disappointed if we don't catch them. Outside of home-field advantage, the Rapids don't have much incentive to actually catch Dallas, especially since the Pepperoni Palace hasn't been too kind to the Hoops yet. We might as well play them there cuz we certainly can't lose!! :D

Seriously, the important race is for 3rd, with LA. I think with two matches in hand and only 4 points separating us, we should be able to catch them. Too bad for LA, they don't play any more matches vs. Chivas!!

We don't need them to get knocked out, just knocked into 4th place.

True, but it would be nice to see them get knocked out.

We need? I need. I would have us win out the rest of the season, but if there was some way LA could not make the playoffs, it would be sweet to me. I guess putting Landon up against his former team would be okay, though. I'd love to see SJ come back from 4 down and just wipe out the LAs again. :)

Yeah, LA vs. SJ in the playoffs would be really nice.

Sweet... It doesn't matter, but I would definitely rather face LA than San Jose in the conf. final, with or without Landycakes. You can just see that they've quit playing, watch the goal that Justin Mapp scored against them on Sunday. Runs by 5 guys like they were standing still. Those guys have stopped playing, don't know if it's because of Sampson or something else, but LA has quit. We will catch them, no doubt in my mind, I just don't see them making it past anyone once the playoffs start.

The Rapids and San Jose are the only two Western Conf. teams that have consistently beaten Eastern Conf. opponents in the last couple of months (LA beat DC 3-2 away in August). If you are rooting from that perspective, you gotta like either us or San Jose to emerge from the Western Conf. to win the MLS Cup, cuz Dallas and LA have been swooning.

If we continue playing the way we are now, we should definitely catch LA, and it is not outlandish for us to catch Dallas. Both have been in a downward spiral lately. :)

I was going to use "capricious"or "preposterous" but "outlandish" seemed to best express my inner leanings. After that, I leaned over and fell off the couch. Special Thanks to Rogets Online Thesaurus. Next time I will say it is not unimaginable. Let's hope that whatever I said, it turns out to come true and we work our way up the ladder. :D

I think that we should catch LA, and can catch Dallas.

My fear, and this is based on the past few years of Rapids soccer.

We started out terribly. We had a mid season surge that makes the Rapids look very competetive, with the usual banter about how nobody wants to face the Rapids in the first round. The end of the season is approaching, and we are now threatening to move out of the 4th slot and into a higher seed position.

I just don't want us to flounder the second the playoffs start (and admittedly, there is a difference this year...this year we are winning games...last year we were stealing games or stumbling into victories).

The bigger question is - do we need to have a reality check before the season ends...ie, better to go into the playoffs in the 3rd or 4th slot and be grounded, than go into the playoffs in the 2nd seed and do our usual crash and burn.

Actually, if the Rapids were to gain the 2nd seed ... it'd be unprecidented. Even in 97 we weren't winning going into the playoffs.

I'd like to see this ... a HOT Rapids team going into the playoffs. Beware though ... Chivas isn't the Chivas of old ... they are play a lot better lately.

Nope, full steam ahead.we should get as high up as possibleand do something we haven't done before. Dominate in the playoffs and win the cup. May be wishfull thinking given our past but we are bound to break that trend eventually. Like was said, this year w are winning games and not relying soley on Cannon. However he does help.

I would love for the Revs to play Fernando and the CRapids in MLS Cup 2005.

I know that there was a lot of angst about FC and his choices in the early part of the season but as you can see he's a resonably good coach and one hell of a good human being who should be able to get the best out of your roster. In truth, you all may be a few years (drafts and trades) away from truly being a Cup contender but it's good to see your franchise getting back on it's feet after a few really tough years.

And I hope things for Steve Sampson andLA goes from bad to worse. ;)

I expect you guy's to pass LA. I would rather face LA in the first round. Next to SJ, the Rapids are playing the best ball in the west. Just tell Joe to stop dyeing his hair like Hartman's....
