I make fun of Tamada a lot on the international level, but you can't just let him run rampant like that. Naka and Amano are like traffic cones out there.
Dare I say Marinos may even be better without Naka on the pitch?
I don't quite understand Shimizu's role in this team either. It's almost like he's a hidden "deep-lying striker". He holds up the ball when they go on attack playing in the space you'd expect a CM. He feeds it to Yamase, Sakata, or Naka... they stretch the pitch down the flanks and then pass back to Shimizu who takes bad shots on goal from just outside the box. If I've got that right, it's an interesting experiment.
    Is Watanabe injured ?

Great vid. A vintage Ono moment on the backheel, and a vintage Shunsuke moment on the FK.

Ono is already phenomenal. I can't believe nobody noticed this talent before. He even wasn't at the U17 WC.

He might have been underestimated because of his minute size...? It won't be the first time...

Marinos won 2-1 in the cup.

Nakamura scored the 1st one and it said Yuji scored the 2nd. They meant Yuji Ono? I have no idea so someone enlighten me.

It was Yuji Ono, and it was a really nicely taken goal.

I was at the game, excellent performance for Marinos overall (fair score: 3-1), only Kazuma Watanabe, who came in half-way through seemed really lost.

Interesting how both him and his brother at Sanga seem totally off-beat these days.

Marinos beat Kobe 1-0, with Kobe ending the game with just nine men after 2 red cards.

Yes, it was a nice goal. But Ono's performance will always stick in my mind as the time he cheated to get another player sent off.

    Hello,

I am working on several website and among them, one dedicated to my favourite club called Girondins de Bordeaux. This French team used to wear a special dark-blue and white jersey with a V (that we call scapulaire in Bordeaux).

If I am here today, it is because I am writing a report on world teams that wear a similar jersey. After a first report about Melbourne Victory and a second about Vélez, I'd like to talk about Marinos.

Because I am covering J-league for my personal website (maybe some of you already "know" me), I've seen that marinos wear a blue jersey with a white V and just wanted to ask you few questions about it.

Does it have an historical origin or is this the first time Yokohama has such jersey. If it is old, could you tell me what are the origin of this V, if it means something ? If it is new, how did fan react to it ?

    Thanks in advance

    nicolas

First time for Marinos, and as far as I can remember perhaps first time ever in Japan...?
Man Utd had it last year, so most fans liked it, I guess...

The design is just a generic Nike template. Quite a few teams have worn that lately.

I suppose a couple of the earlier Marinos shirts were kind of a fake V - and I'm sure some people would try to argue that it represents their maritime history - but really, there's not a lot to it. It's just a shirt design for this year.
