What a god awful presentation. "WW 2 for pre school" History of the world was done better and that was 'supposed' to be funny. Couple of fun shots. Hitler shaves with a WWII British special forces Sykes Fairbairn knife. I was issued one a lot later. Then Patton stand in front of targets while tankers shoot British SMLE rifles at him and they miss.. General, Dug out Doug, goes for a picnic, commanding troops from the front as Patton invents the tank, tank tactics and drives to Berlin in one charge and wins the war. And I always thought that "Black Jack Pershing" (Who) commanded the excellent US forces. I found something useful to do after the first episode. (Actually the guy who portrays Hitler does have his mannerisms down, best part of the show.)
I never knew a Brit had Hitler in his sights and let him go. See, we CAN blame the Brits for everything!
Us Brits are just too nice. Just image....although I don't know if I can...If he had shot him... The mind boggles
Looks like it doesn't matter. I read as many books as anyone on both wars and I hardly recognized it. The TV show would maybe be good cliff notes for junior high history.
Ill have to watch it Im afraid. However, if they present Patton as the paragon of mobile maneuvering and not Zhukov they are simply pandering. Also, if they dont show Patton bulldozing fellow Americans in the Bonus Army they are disingenuous.
They are, to me it plays like a propaganda show, our propaganda for sure. As they say the winners write the history, and the cultural dominant country spends millions on TV shows to make sure their side of the story is what people remember.
I watched 8 seconds. Their image of the Great Depression was a stock broker jumping out the window. I feel confident on basing my dismal opinion of the whole show based on those 8 seconds.
Exactly! Perhaps, just perhaps they went a little over the top with it. From Herodotus to the Bayeux Tapestry to the (Loose) History Channel. I didn't realize Patton was part of that shame. I know McArthur lead it though. I thought I might watch and see how Patton cleared the Germans out of North Africa by whupping Rommel. When Rommel was in Northern France. Nah! Not worth my time!
