No not really...He's been in good form lately....Coupled with RvP's injury, this is not really something to celebrate....This leaves very little options in the striker department...Welbz is good but his finishing leaves a lot to be desired....Chicha is....well Chicha and needs a team working for him to get the goals...

Say what you will about Rooney, but the guy is an ironman. Never gets injured.

It only proves the English bias towards him particularly in the run up to a World Cup.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the Sky commentators, especially Alan Smith, were tripping over themselves to make excuses for Rooney last night. Like when he ignored Kagawa in the first half, it was because the defenders had the space covered(? Really?)... Or when he fluffed the chance that Welbeck and Kagawa laid on a plate for him, Alan Smith actually had the audacity to say that the pass was overhit and had quote, "too much pace for Rooney to work with"?! Honestly, beggars belief!

This English jingoism pissses me off on a good day, but made me positively suicidal last night...

talkSPORT have also launched into a spirited defence of him this afternoon with the default position of he was injured and is therefore absolved of all criticism.

He played injured. I get it. However when the gamble failed he should have done the honest and professional thing by asking to be replaced as he was hindering the team. This is our captain elect remember. He needs to learn to put the team before his ego.

rooney had a terrible game. injured or not, i won't give him a pass. but it's laughable to expect any player at that level to sub themselves out unless they're physically unable to actually run up and down the pitch. unwavering self belief is a huge part of what separates athletes at that level, all good players believe that they can make a difference even when not 100%. that's what managers are for.

On holiday, but long story short, Moyes is so beholden to him that he left a half gimp Wayne on and pulled Danny. When we needed to chase a goal. Anyone with a brain could see wazza wasn't himself. Yet Moyes just continued his trend of ineptitude. It's unbearable to watch.

On another note, an article today suggested that Waynes salary is actually nowhere near 300k a week. Actually suggested his base salary was decrease, but his image rights and performance bonuses could make the contract reach a 300k per week level.

Fishy that this popped up right after he shit the bed last night, but God willing there's a shred of truth.

If they were u16 players then yeah.

Can't score from 6 yards. Also couldn't really get the best of any one marker

Rooney looked fine in the first half imo. He was moving well, receiving the ball deep and helping move the ball back into their territory. Once he made the run that won the corner in the second half, he was done. Perhaps the pain medication wore off. Even his corners didn't look good anymore and it was on Moyes to take him off.

Star reporting he's put for the season with a chipped bone in the foot.....

Is it bad I'm kind of excited to see that Newcastle front four for the rest of the season?

Seriously. Some papers saying the World Cup is at risk too, though I imagine this is just like RVP situation. We have nothing to play for, so let those two rest.

Typical. Who is more injury prone? Rooney or RVP?

I hope he goes to the WC anyway so we can play without him for the first month or so.

It really sucks when that's the question we have to ask about our two best goal scorers.
