I kindly demand this thread be closed and summarily obliterated, before people catch on to the cheap, beautiful secret that is Luksusowa and drive up its price. Inconsiderate jerks. :)

I purchased a bottle of Hanger One infused with Lime. I tried a shot straight up and it was okay, but I think the vodka could be smoother. What was terrific was making a Hpnotiq Martini with 2 oz of Hpnotiq and an 1 1/4 oz of Grey Goose Citron with a splash of lemon juice. Shaken with ice and strained into a martini glass. That was yummy.

Has anyone heard of a vodka, I believe it is from New Zealand and was produced in the backyard of a guy's house under the ground. Was bought out by Bacardi. A name of 45 South. Those that have tried it is it any good? Compared to other Vodkas how highly would you rate it?

Would appreciate some help if possible.

    with club soda and lemon.

It's still my favorite brand, and you can still get a handle (1.75 L) for under $20.

Oh man, have I done some damage to my poor little liver with that stuff. For several year I always had a bottle in the freezer. Definitely my favorite, but I won't buy it anymore. I can't be trusted with it in the house.

(Also, here in Oregon and Washington, it's about $17 for a 750ml bottle, which pisses me off because the same bottle cost $11 or $12 in Virginia.)

I've actually moved away from vodka to bourbon. Since I'm making a concerted effort to drink less, I figure I need to make each drink tastier. As a result, I've been on a Makers Mark Manhattan kick.

I also will sometimes have a bottle of Absolut Mandrin in the freezer but, like the Luksusowa, I can't be trusted with it.

Edit: I just realized that this is an old thread and I've probably already posted several times about my love for Luksusowa.

Yeah, it's a very old thread, but I figured I'd bump it rather than create a new one. :)

Since I just moved to California, I can finally get this:

The 1.75 was $26, so maybe not as cheap as that Luksusowa stuff, but still quite affordable. And honestly, it's one of the (if not THE) best vodkas I've ever tasted.

That came from Costco? Stupid Oregon & Washington won't let regular stores sell liquor. In fact, the incredibly stupid people in Washington specifically voted against it last year. Idiots.

Liquor. At Costco. What's not to love?

I don't know where you lived before, but if you just moved to Bay Area, try this.

Are there online merchants worth checking out? My local liquor store doesn't have a great vodka selection and I don't feel like driving to a wholesaler (I don't know where one is around here, anyway).

There are plenty though the better ones I've found are in England and the shipping tends to be over the top. Check out the link below, quality selection and the prices are too bad.

That's what I've been getting. In fact I think it was you who recommended it in another thread some time ago. Some of my friends were skeptical because it's the Costco brand, but once they taste it they agree it's great value.

Went there with the lady around Christmas, excellent. Excellent selection of good Vodkas as well, though I was slightly dissapointed they had no Beluga.

Basically, all I've drank is Vodka in the past year with the exception of water and coffee, a top 5...

    1. Russian Standard
    2. Jewell of Russia
    3. Tito's
    4. Beluga
    5. Belvedere

I need to buy a bottle of this Lusakowa or however you spell it.

If you wanted Beluga you should have gone to Mari Vanna. You'd have paid a lot more, and I like their flavored vodkas a bit less, but it's now the hipper Russian scene - it's where you go to look like an oligarch. Not sure the place was open when I made the above post.
Tito's is really good - I think it's better than Russian Standard.

There are times when a chilled flavored vodka is the perfect drink. My favorite is Effen black cherry. You can get a 750 ml bottle at BevMo for about 25 dollars. In fact, that's the only flavored vodka I buy.

Most flavored vodka is a bad value because it's only 70 proof. Except Absolut - their flavored vodkas are 80 proof, the way God intended. Anyway, the only flavored vodkas I buy are Absolut Mandrin and sometimes Peppar.

Maybe that explains why some of my friends who don't drink vodka do drink the flavored ones.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which I would buy a flavored vodka. All I can come up with is if I wanted to get a 14-year-old drunk for some reason.

Or it was post-apocalyptic era and all the evil empire has was flavored vodka.
