Good example of a weakness of Clasie. Ball loss now for a second time. He also dropped level during the season against a few minnows, but was the best in the top games. Improvement point for him. Concentration, though he has already been remarkable consistent. Think about Eriksen weak period, Vertonghen, first half of the season, Strootman second half of the season, Maher second half of the season less dominant (also has to do with other position). Clasie has been very consistent compared to that, however now I would like to see him in the second half keep playing at the level he can play at. Going to focus on that.

Why is Gouweleeuw not playing?? He was playing the last match & made a few very good passes although defensively he was not too great

Clasie fades off in the second half. I have watched a few games, very few but in general this is what happened. Feyenoord said they trained him to play 60 minutes. I think he is too used to that and has not been pushed for fear of being pushed or getting injured.

He runs out of stamina and it shows no matter how hard he tries. His level drops

Because Cor pot does not understand that against bunker teams you want to play your best footballing defender. Instead go for defensive security with 3-0 up against Luxembourg.

Nation wide there is 1 agreement in football. The man is a horrible U21 coach.

Boula would never been able to give such a pass or even see it. The whole way he is carrying himself and how he uses his body versus an attacker oozes class. Very happy van Rhijn is taking over from van der Wiel. They will go for Moisander I think at Ajax, but the guy I want to see is Denswil. Key player to develop for the Netherlands. Then with van Rhijn and him Dutch NT has 2 fine additions in the not so far future and damn we need it in defense.

van Rhijn is better than van der Wiel at this point in time. Much better on the ball and on crosses. I really hope that van der Wiel has a good Euro tournament and we can get max value. If he flames out, I can't see him going for more than €6M if that.

Do you think there is any chance Van Rhijn will make it as a CB???

I don't like to sit on the chair of Ajax fans/watchers, but that is his preferred spot IIRC. He said he thinks he is even better at that position. So I would not know why not, but I am sure he will trade all his preferences in a split second to just make as many minutes as he can at right back, now VdW is moving on.

As is Vertonghen. So there are 2 vacancies and he can make it it either of them

Yes but as I said only a few posts ago, they will buy a regular "Moisander" type to replace the Belgium and then they have a great prospect in Denswil. I guess they want to give that player a chance any time soon as well. He is labeled as quite a prospect.

You would almost need to have a PSV situation to make this happen maybe. Both Alderweireld and Moisander (at PSV 2 left backs getting injured for a long time so Willems was able to grab his chance) getting injured and then some sort of switching starting to happen. Blind of course can also play central. Maybe he is even better there than at left back.. That Danish kid idem dito.

I think right back is it for him coming year. Often it's also a case what's best of the team, not the player. Maybe he can be 10% better in center, but if the total defense would win more by going for others, then de Boer will do that.

However my position is clear. I think clubs should be a reflection of neighborhood kids, so the public in the stadium can identify with the team and the players have a connection with the club that goes much deeper. I like to keep things "real". This is IMO good for the club and also good Dutch NT. They could go for an all Dutch back line, but that Danish kid is a bit too special. Toby has done also well in Eredivisie. He did make stupid mistakes for Belgium NT the other day mind.

van Rhijn will play right back for one simple reason. de Boer prefers left foot players on the left side of the defense and as long as Alderwiereld is with the club he will be the first choice for the right central defender. Denswil is likely a year away (though remember that Toby got his first start against Internazionale in the Amsterdam tournament pre-season match when he was just 18 years old so anything is possible). As was noted, the club will look to bring in an experienced left center defender.

I'm not going speculate on van Rhijn's best position but only note that he's a fine right fullback. I'm not sure he's physically strong enough to play in the center at this point. FWIW, van der Wiel also was a central defender coming up in the youth system (which may explain why he is such a one-footed player).

First I dont get your obsessions with e double footed players. He is a RB,he is supposed to 1 footed. And Robben Messi & a lot of great players today are 1 footed as well.

And Frank sounds like a lot like van Gaal.Right footed players in right side of defense & let footed guys in left side

I'm not obsessed with double footed players but van der Wiel has NO left foot to speak of. This is fine for a central defender but for someone who is coming up and overlapping, it can be a real detriment since the opposition can over play him and force him into a bad situation. You need to be able to pass with the off foot to get out of trouble and van der Wiel cannot do this. You are wrong about Messi, he is pretty adept with his off foot; Robben is not.

no one is supposed to be one footed. A RB should be right footed, yes, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be able to use his left foot. Players should be able to at least cut back onto their weaker foot to make a pass or to dribble around a player on the other side. VdW can't do that. The players you've mentioned can. There have been many times where I've seen VdW unable to pass or cross with his right foot (because he's covered), so he has to pass backwards because he can't use his left foot to pass. That's a disadvantage whether you see it as such or not

Denswil is 19 years and 26 days old as of today. Boilesen was also pretty young. However I have have come to believe injuries will become very important (example: Willems). When everybody is fit at the back he is not ready. When both CB drop in one week with hamstrings, all of the sudden you will hear trainer and staff say that he already trained with the group and has been trained under Frank in youth (don't know if that is the case) and so knows what is expected from him.

People just talk towards the situation.

France could win this Euro. I think they are dark horses. These are the kids winning the Euro U17 some time ago.

Who knows, what our U17 teams will deliver in the future.

France is a strong favorite that hasn't been talked much about. They've been flying nicely under the radar, and I think they will surprise a lot of people. It's a star-loaded team with a charismatic manager. Their route to final is very manageable.. they can top the table without breaking sweat, especially with England in all kinds of injuries trouble. In quarter final, second best in Group C is presumably Italy, a team that surely is beatable. Semi final... well, oh well, could be a date with the Eleven Lions of Orange. ;)

Found a feed at about the 30 minute mark of the match. Good combination to get the penalty. I still don't like Fer all that much as I think his passing is very lazy. You saw how the Bulgarians almost got a break away. Clasie has such good field awareness. He makes the good pass and then quickly figures out where the open space is and moves to it.

Gilette rating has him as the best keeper of this past season. Zoet is 21 and I think he could step in any team in Eredivisie at the moment.

Krul & Zoet. On the keeper front Dutch NT looks covered for the middle long future.

Fer is a mixed bag. On the one hand I shake my head at times with him. He really does not get it or, he just isn't equipped for the high level passing game top teams play and with that you are tempted to say no against the kid for the senior NT. Then, he does have depth in his game. That penalty setup, was him. Cool penalty was him. Tackling was him and turning away very smart sometimes was also him. Sometimes a through pass and that header idem dito.

But I agree. If we look with a wider view and stare into the future, Fer's game does not carry enough football to reach the absolute top. If he wants to go that way he needs to learn to pass better and simpler.

Clasie does not have a lot of depth in his game though. He needs to make more unexpected runs into the box from time to time. He probably is just not that kind of player and so in a 4-2-3-1 system that senior NT is playing, he needs to be paired with DM that has some depth. Strootman has that. All in all Clasie is a breath of fresh air in DM.

I also want to mention de Vrij from the first half. Comes across as a better footballer than I thought. In the way that he can turn away from attackers very well. Also strong.

Are the Bulgarians playing dirty or just chasing the game as I see from uefa.com that they already have 4 yellow cards

Chasing. Not dirty, but hard so now and then. With a big challenge from Dutch player one guy stood up immediately, instead of making a meal out of it. Could have made much more from it, so liked that. Zeefuik and van Ginkel are happy to go down whenever they can.
