i know Ian, how about... --------------Carroll--------------- ---------------------Walcott------- Young----Rooney--Gerrard---OX get in.
Rooney could be a decent cm but he's always shit for England, theo could work off that donkey upfront if a game is stretched
Hmm. Stats show that Theo creates 1.3 chances per 90min while Gervinho makes 1.8 although I'd admit that the way they count "chances created" is not the way I'd do it. Their assists on a per minute basis are very similar with Theo slightly above but that includes some assists that might meet the technical definition of an assist but few would credit with really creating the chance to score. They are both pretty limited.
I'm glad he sign da ting. 21 goals this season. Hopefully, he'll get better and more consistent next season.
It was a watershed performance for him yesterday. There was a maturity about his game and hustle that I have NEVER seen in him. One selfish shot aside, he was near perfect. We forget how young he still is and we can only hope that he becomes an iconic player for AFC moving forward.
i think rooney's best position may turn out to be the deeper lying of a front 3. .......striker 1.....striker 2..... ..................rooney.............. ..cm1..........cm2........cm3..
he's scored 5 goals and 1 assist over all 4 competitive england games this season. in the last 3 seasons he has played 17 of england's 20 games (and he was banned for 2 of those), scoring 11 times with 6 assists
oh, we're picking and choosing bits and pieces and only certain games, along with moving goalposts now? you should have said. why not just pick games he hasn't scored in and ask what his record is............ actually, even better. he was banned for 2 games. he didn't score in those. bigman said he hadn't done it consistently for a while. his goals say otherwise. you asked what his tournament record was, now you want something else.
when he said Rooney has been inconsistent for England, I assumed he meant tournaments. I know qualifying is important, but goals against Andora, San Marino, or even Montenegro arent getting panties wet. ok, so there were 8 other matches... but it doesnt. He has an okish tournament record for England as a whole, but has not produced for them since his very first tournament. I fail to see the issue here. FWIW, I think Theo's record for England is even worse, especially since that Croatia hat trick.
rooney has scored 11 times in 10 different competitive matches for england over those last 17. prior to that he had scored 15 times in 10 different competitive matches over the previous 31. as they say, do the math. he's actually getting more consistently productive. (i can't stand rooney, so stop making me feel like i'm backing him when i'm just pointing out what has actually occurred)
It's undeniable that Theo is playing well and having a bit of a rebirth. And I just heard his interview on 5Live: Not sure why he's being so coy. Why not just say "I was talking with Wenger/Bould and they challenged me to..."? Anyway it's all good... and long may it last!! Three years would be nice... to match the amount of time that this Theo appreciation thread has gone neglected.
It's amazing what a little effort in the defensive side can do for the fans. His numbers are not far away from the last two years and still off from his peak, but adding the Joel Campbell work rate has done wonders for how we perceive him.
Point taken, but it's not just the fans who are praising Theo this season. It's the pundits, the critics, the England manager, etc. I guess it falls into two categories: (A) This season is being compared to his last season which was pretty much his nadir, and (B) Stats, or the choice of which stats to list, don't always tell the whole story. p.s. I have no interest in getting into an argument about stats. I don't see them religiously as some do. I see them as one of the key tools you can use to assess a player, but as Wenger said in a recent interview "sometimes you just have to trust your eyes". And I might add "your gut".
