The Texan Gets His Spurs: Dempsey at Tottenham This 1 is the very best. BTW how are the fans reacting to having Clint joined the club?
On the forums, some have lamented that Tottenham have gotten rid of world class players (Modric/VdV) and replaced with "midtable midfielders" (Dembele/Dempsey). Others are more enthusiastic (e.g. Dembele bossing the Man U. midfield last weekend and Dempsey's knack for scoring). Most are worried this year's Tottenham is not as talented as last year's; what's more, they have some qualms that the new coach is just not good enough for EPL (replaced as Chelsea coach after an EPL record which eventually dropped Chelsea to a 6th place finish and "unconvincing" performances to start this year's campaign).
As well as Friedel did today, I believe the amount spent on Lloris makes him the 4th most expensive keeper of all time, possibly 3rd once the add-ons are paid and Lloris is also generally rated as one of the top 10 GKs in the World. Spurs have not brought him in to sit behind a Friedel and good performance by Friedel won't change that.
Preaching to the choir my friend. My point is he's had to overcome more than his fair share of doubters. Proving people wrong appears to be a motivating factor in a few stages of his career, so I hope all the negative crap coming from Craven Cottage and Anfield just adds more fuel to the fire.
I am paying too much attention to the Tottenham fan forums when I suddenly have qualms about AvB's coaching style. If you choose to believe some of the fans, the players are confused and have not bought in to his "system" which might or might not explain Tottenham's "below-expectations" performance thus far. How Dempsey will play into this remains to be seen; he has to adjust his "football IQ"/talent to an allegedly higher quality of speed/faster decision-making process/playmaking then what he has been used to at Fulham. Plus having to deal with the alleged "confusion" (?) with how Tottenham is currently playing because of a new coach's tactical changes. We shall see.
A few Wall Street financial institutions are key as well. Can't get anywhere unless you grease everyone's pockets. As for players being confused, I thinks that's partly an excuse for fans. The bigger issue imo is not having the right players for AVB's system, hence Tottenham going out and getting a player like Clint who's one of the best in the box threats in the EPL. I expect to see Clint across from Bale. I could be wrong but I think that's the most likely place for him, and Lennon goes to the bench. His best asset, pace, seems to be tailor made for a super sub type role. Bale/Lennon are too similar in waht they bring and neither is enough of a threat at getting on the end of crosses in the box. Bale can create for himself and others, but Lennon to me seems considerably more flash than substance. However matching Bale/Clint across from one another brings different skill sets to the table and imo, immediately would make Tottenham tougher to stop in the final third.
Fulham fans are really going to let him have it when he goes back in December. And after that, it'll ease up.
This photo reminds me of the immortal song of .... the Backstreet Boys Tell me why Ain't nothin' but a heartache Tell me why Ain't nothin' but a mistake Tell me why I never wanna hear you say I want it that way
I simply cannot take another bite of the Liverpool schadenfreude...I swear, I'm stuffed. Ok, one more...
the Tottenham squad has plenty of talent to be in the top four. AVB however is another story. Bet he gets canned before Xmas.
Fulham and Liverpool fans probably have a lot of complaining they can do right now. They probably need to yell at Dempsey less and their managers/owners more.
