forgot about that but selling top prospects would of garnered them so much dough.

It would be nice to have him, but if he's now saying something else. I say forget about him, and go all out for Castro.

I agree. Hugo has a lot of heart, but makes too many mistakes for a top flight club. He's really Liga d'Honra material IMHO. Wishing him the best of luck, though.

    Plantel do Sporting actualizado:

Entradas -Romagnoli, Caneira e Abel e saídas -Edson, Rogério, Paíto, Pinilla, Wender, Silva, Varela e Hugo , Beto (? )e Semedo ( UL ?) .

    GR: Ricardo, Nélson e Tiago
    DD: Miguel Garcia e Abel
    DE: Tello e André Marques
DC: Polga, Tonel, Caneira, Beto e Semedo
    MD: Custódio e Luís Loureiro
MO: João Moutinho, Carlos Martins, Sá Pinto, João Alves, Nani e Romagnoli
    AV: Liedson, Deivid e Douala

    17 portugueses e 6 estrangeiros
    11 internacionais AA
    média de idades - 23,4
3 com 30 anos ou mais
3 com 21 anos ou menos

Rogerio is the only starter that left the team but Abel should be a competent replacement. Caneira will be a much better option than Beto or Polga in the middle and could also play trinco or either side at FB. Romagnli, who knows??? He will start out blocking Martins (once again) but could be the wilcard we needed in the midfield or he could be a bust. Of the players we let go I'm sorry to see Semedo and Varela not stick around but they will be back soon enough. Pinilla showed flashes of brilliance but seemed to me too weak mentally for a team like Sporting. According to Bento we are still looking for a physical type forward (Marcel ???).

I like this team better than when he took over but another CD (Castro,Alcantara) is needed. Tonel/Caneira is good enouch but not deep enough...

sporting should spend the money for ze castro because they will be making it back if they sell anyone in the summer which is highly likely. A target for many teams espeacially middlesbrough is douala and sporting will be asking a substantial amount for him.

Welcome newbie :) , I agree Douala is money in the bank, but personally I'm not a great fan of Ze Castro, not yet anyway, it may be better for him to stay in Academica for another year to really gel his skills.

We already know that Bento wants someone with more experience. Semedo is the other starter at CD for the U21 NT and he was just loaned to Leiria. But We could buy him now (lower cost) and keep him there till the end of the season. We would then have 2 out of the top 3 or 4 prospects at that spot to complement Tonel or whomever for the future. In the meantime there are plenty of stopgap options out there. Avalos, Alcantara, Nunes could all do a nice job on the short term....

This team is a much better team than the one we started off the year with, except for Roca, whom was the midfielder that pushed everyone forward, even though he sometimes got tired toward the end of the game but he was always carrying two or three defenders with him. El Pipi, hopefully will bring conscestance to the middle with Carlos Martins. Caneira and Tonel (probable the best aquisition over the summer) will have a strond D. Up front with the emerge of Leidson again we seemed better than before. Abel has big feet to fill but he will be alright. And the biggest suprise is the excellent play of Ricardo.

We should be alright now we just need the wins to put some stability back into Paulo Bento's game, that at times gets lost.

    Caneira could start vs Braga.

Deivide is back in training and may play vs Braga.

The jersey #'s are 41,42 & 47 for the juniors.

Hey Sportinguistas, we need to come up with a short name for our new signing Romagnoli. I've adapted his knickname from Argentina "El Pipi", but we can do better. Here are 2 other options "Romag", "Noli".
Let's come up with one, this guy is a great player.

He did play and had a positive contribution
