I think the good thing about this signing is that we now look very strong and fluid across the front 4. Welbeck, Rooney or Hernandez up front; Kagawa, Giggs, Rooney behind; on the wings Kagawa, Young and Nani can play either side, even Rooney and Welbeck. The interchangeability would leave most teams tactics in disarray. There's only poor Tony V who's tied to a position (well, except right-back!) but he's dominant in that position on his day and we've seen teams doubling up to stop him... which would leave even more room for the others to create havoc.
Talking of Scholes playing behind the striker, I think Fergie missed a trick there. The 30+ Scholes was a bonafide all time top 100 player and we might have won another European Cup or 2 if we wouldn't have wasted his talents playing him behind Ruud in what should have been the prime of his career. Goalscoring attacking mids or #10s are much more easier to find than a great metronome.
Yes. I think part of it was to accommodate Veron at the time. I also think that Fergie/Keane felt that the midfield belonged to Keano too.
I'm still trying to figure out how a club containing Keane, Scholes, Veron, Butt, Beckham, Giggs, Van Nistelrooy and later Ferdinand didn't completely and utterly dominate world football.
That's what happens when you don't speak up in life - shunted forward to accomodate Veron and Keane, and shunted left for Lampard and Gerrard.
this is good - from the main site: http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...pert-raphael-honigstein-on-shinji-kagawa.aspx
Thanks pgr... my favorite bit from that: "Kagawa isn't an Arjen Robben or a Franck Ribery type who picks up the ball and everyone starts shaking with fear; the guy almost works in a stealthier way. He finds space and he touches it when it’s already too late." That is seriously reminiscent of Scholes.
Where do you see him fitting in at United? He definitely gives you an option to play 4-2-3-1, the way that United played in 2007/08, which is arguably the best football they’ve played in recent years. I think he has been reading these forums ^^
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/7810015/Kagawa-wants-central-role Looks like he want that central role. I would love to know what SAF has in mind and how he wl deploy Kagawa.
had his 4-hour medical today, then to Carrington to sign and then back on a plane to Japan. work permit still needs to be sorted.
Rubbish. No blanket, nothing. It's like he's not even trying to hide. Waving actually draws attention to you FFS.
confirmed on the official site. 4-year deal, undisclosed fee, medical passed and work permit granted. will be a United player on July 1.
Doesnt matter who models that shirt, doesnt matter how its shown doesnt matter the occassion, its attrocious.
My question is, would it have been better to cut out thye middle man wrt to Kagawa and Reus? That is to say, would it have been better to go directly to Reus? To our Bundesliga experts, Syed and SirM, and anyone else who might have an educated opinion, who is better between them? Who has more potential?
