Did they handcuff, kick him in the head or get a bodyguard all up in his grill?

I don't know, it is Bubba Clinton asking Meeks to drop out.

It's just desperation. Shameful, but that's the way it goes. Run over friends and allies if it's a means to an end.

A leader of the GOP campaign advocated stomping on heads and gestapo tactics? If that's true, I am appalled.

How do you feel about screwing over an entire country for political gain? Isn't that what the right is doing in Congress by saying no to everything that comes down the pike? They've already said that when they win on Tuesday there will be no compromise on anything and the #1 agenda is to make Obama a one term President. How's that for governing?

    No budget
No decision on extending tax cuts
    No deficit reductions
    No jobs
    No recovery
    ...

Remind me again which is the party of no. BTW, gridlock served us well when we were travelling a similar path during the 1990s.

There's nothing defensible about anything the president has done so far. American voters are proving that this election is a referendum on his fallacy-based policies. As a result, the GOP has a mandate to stop his idealistic and irresponsible agenda, and yes, hold serve until a Republican is sworn into office in 2012. Americans hate the health care bill, the economy has gotten worse after that stupid promise that unemployment wouldn't rise above 8%, and this rampant deficit spending has accomplished virtually nothing. The past two years has been a waste and his party will be rewarded with the equivalent of a good ole' facial from the American public on Tuesday.

    IMO

A divided government is a better govenment

I would love a Democrat in the white house and Republicans in the congress for the next 50 years.

The other way around works pretty well for Massachusetts. But I agree with the sentiment.

To those who want divided gvt....historical facts prove that the economy grows best when the Dems control both the White House and Congress. It grows worst when the GOPs control both.

2 recent Alaska polls have Murkowski in the lead. One has the Dem in 2nd, one has Miller in 2nd.

Obviously the race is incredibly volatile, and God only knows how polling results for Murkowski will translate into actual votes.

    :D

That's one of the recurring themes of my posts, that Dems are better for the economy than GOPs. The smartass in me wants to just post a link for all my posts in PC&E. Instead, pm me and next time I see an article, I'll let you know.

It was true 15 years ago, and it's true now. It's true if you use a 25 year time frame, a 50 year time frame, or a 75 year time frame. It's just freakin' true.

But I understand your skepticism. The conservatively biased media hides that particular truth. See, it wouldn't be objective to tell the truth.

How could I figure out what party controlled congress by year?

I tried, but it looks like shit, sorry!

Do you happen to recall which of the two divided government options has performed better historically? Dem Pres & Rep Congress or Rep Pres & Dem Congress?

There's something wrong with your numbers there.

I noticed that 1921 is a Dem year. That's fair, IMO, because Wilson was more responsible for the 1921 economy than Harding.

But 2009 is also a Dem year. One or the other of those is wrong.

For what I saw, before, Presidents changed at different times, maybe because of death. I just looked at a list and usually gave the year to the president that took power, I could have made a few mistakes, and as you can see my excel posted pretty crappy.

Obama started in January 2009. Wilson took office in March 1921.

But you know how it goes, when the ecomomy does well presidents want the credit, when it goes bad they want to blame the prior president. :p

I don't know about Congress, but here's a graph that shows the post-WWII correlation between the party that controls the White House and national income growth rates.

And before somebody says this to me; yes, I know correlation may or may not equal causation.

And here's the link from which I found the graph:

Is the above adjusted for inflation? If not it's really a meaningless graph.

From what I remember in my economics classes, real GDP growth in America has averaged about 2% per year since World War II. I'm not 100% sure however.

The go-go 80's were a product Reagan and O'Neil and the go-go 90's a product of Clinton and Newt. Shouting "it's just freaking true" might make you believe it, but in the end you are just shouting.

False. They were both built on bubbles. We haven't had real economic growth since the mid 70's.
