The coin flip to host the Final is supposed to be taking place right now (12pmCT, 7/30).... I have no doubt that if we host it, we win it!
WHEN we beat DC United, will have to win our 5th USOC Championship on the road. If Portland beats RSL then it will be on (9/24 at Portland) and if Real Salt Lake beats Portland then it will be on (10/1 at Real Salt Lake). http://www.chicago-fire.com/blog/post/2013/07/30/open-cup-final-coin-flip-how-it-all-went-down
Yes, I just read that. Dear Leader 'Dollar Menu' 'Drew breathed a heavy sigh of relief. He doesn't have to pay for more than airfare and lodging, and if we lose, there is always the "let's all hope for better luck next year, 'cuz it's really hard to beat (Portland or RSL) on the road." Which it is, but even more so when you have a roster dictated by cost rather than quality.
Wasn't me. I'd have cheated. In our favor, I mean. Why shouldn't I have? Not my (or my wife's, or my father-in-law's) money. (sigh) Oh well, hope for the best... start checking the airlines and hotels, I suppose.
A USSF guy. DC United did not apply to host the final, so if DCU/Fire had won the flip and DCU won the game next week, the final would have still been in the west.
I hope we win on 8/7 but I have big doubts we will win in the final since we have to play on the road.
Hopefully Anangono is a goal scoring maniac and the club is perfectly gelled together by the time either 9/24 or 10/2 rolls around
I don't think this is right. It's my understanding that players may play in the USOC unless they played for another team in this year's USOC.
Man I miss the early years. http://www.chicago-fire.com/news/20...lff-looks-back-2000-open-cup-semifinal-winner And according to Wolff, he doesn’t think he’d have accomplished any of those things, had he not began his career with the Chicago Fire in 1998. “Coming out of college you just don’t know – you’re not sure, you’re not prepared for it,” Wolff told Chicago-Fire.com recently. “Obviously landing here and the direction the club went in at such an early stage was instrumental as far as me becoming a professional.”
The road to the 5th Open Cup starts June 10th or so. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/04/24/09/27/140424-usoc-2014-tournament-announcement
http://www.hottimeinoldtown.com/2014/4/25/5649954/u-s-open-cup-two-chicago-teams-play-early (Straight from the News Thread) 2 Chicago area teams playing in the early rounds. Schwaben have a home game in May in Buffalo Grove. Might be cool to check it out. Anyone else thinking about it?
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I live just across the street from Buffalo Grove, so if I'm in town, I'll definitely go.
